The federal government is looking to expand electric transmission lines across the country to develop renewable energy and bring electricity to areas currently disconnected from the grid. See how this will impact Tribes and how Tribal members can be involved:
Sovereign Energy was honored to convene some of New Mexico’s Native farmers for a focus group this month as part of the New Mexico Tribal Agrivoltaics Education Initiative, supported by the @honnoldfound.
This project fosters vital dialogue on integrating solar energy with Native farming practices. This gathering emphasized the importance of hearing directly from Indigenous voices, reflecting their diverse perspectives and expertise.
As Indigenous Peoples, we are far too familiar with resisting corruption, colonialism, and extractivism. We will never stop fighting for balance, equity, peace, justice, and the respect of our ways of life! Today we mourn. Tomorrow we fight!
Take good care of yourselves today, Relatives. ❤️ From traditional practices to spending time in nature, gathering with loved ones, or learning from our Elders, self-care honors the healing power of culture & community. 💪🏽✨
Education, access to dedicated funding, and dismantling restrictive federal policies are essential to unlocking the full potential of tribal green energy initiatives.
The funds will support a fleet of electric vehicles, a gray water management system & a 2-acre solar array that will reduce energy costs by 80%. Underneath the panels, native gardens will support prairie restoration, showcasing a sustainable path that respects both land & culture
🌿 Sovereign Energy Farm Visit to Tesuque Pueblo Farm

The visit demonstrated how traditional knowledge, paired with renewable energy solutions, can strengthen community health, food security, and environmental resilience. Thank you to the Tesuque Pueblo Farm & the @honnoldfound for supporting our work🌱
Sustainable Practices: Tesuque Farm exemplifies sustainable agriculture, using geothermal and solar-powered greenhouses, natural fertilizers, composting, water conservation, and chemical-free practices.
🔗 New report by @IPRightsIntl & @BHRRC explores a renewable energy transition centered on Indigenous Peoples' rights & priorities. A just transition requires respect for Indigenous people, shared prosperity, & recognizing Indigenous knowledge.

It's why #EarthGivesDay exists. This day and the 25 days leading up to it, allow environmental nonprofits to be lifted to the forefront.

Only 2 percent of donations go towards environmental nonprofits, with an even smaller percent going towards Tribal nonprofits.
Please consider giving today or by the official Earth Gives Day on October 1st. It's time this changed.
