Vivir en barrios caminables se asocia con menor mortalidad, y el mayor efecto protector se observa en los grupos con menor nivel socioeconómico. Estudio con dos millones de personas a lo largo de 15 años.

Not sure that ā€œkids can’t have safe routes to school because your phone doesn’t workā€ is the winning argument you think it is?
I’m in Dulwich. One of the more expensive areas of London, supposedly a global city, and I’m getting worse mobile phone reception that I did in Kabul a decade ago. I pay for two contracts: @O2 and @EE and neither is reliable so I can’t work. Mobile phones are useless in vast areas of Britain and have got worse. You can never work on a train, unlike in France. But we’re spending Ā£4.5 billion in bike lanes and crossings. This government is prioritising virtue signalling vanity projects when we need infrastructure urgently.

This new layout on Elswick Road shows what the proposed cycle lane/parking could look like on Matthew Bank.

This was our response to the proposals.
Newcastle City Council have published plans for Jesmond Dene Road and Matthew Bank. This implements a variation on the plan for a cycle track agreed by the Blue House Working Group in 2018 and extends these down Matthew Bank. spaceforgosforth.com/jesmond…

Postponing RIS3 for a few years would certainly help with Government finances.
Our Road Investment Strategy 3 (RIS3) is going to benefit millions of drivers šŸš— The Ā£27 billon investment will improve connectivity around the country and allow National Highways to resurface over 9,000 kilometres worth of motorway and major A-road lanes. A BSL summary of this announcement šŸ‘‡

One of our biggest fears about the proposed expansion of (already very large) Moor Farm roundabout is that it will lead to far more car-dependent suburbs like this.
If you build apartments in a cul-de-sac where public transit can't get to them, you should be held responsible for increasing traffic congestion. That's what high density without non-car options ALWAYS means.

Interesting article. Not convinced extra rail will reduce traffic on the A1, but if extra capacity between Newcastle and Edinburgh is the aim then rail should be the priority.
Is the #ECML being overlooked as a solution to the safety issues on the #A1 in #Northumberland? #ModalShift away from driving and onto rail, and road freight onto railfreight could save lives. northumberlandcoastloop.uk/2…

It really feels like @N_landCouncil have missed a trick not thinking about how people could access the new Northumberland line by bike.
The Dutch mobility system isn't just built around cycling. It's built around bike-train intermodality: the bike solves the train's convenience problem and the train solves the bike's range problem. Together they offer an attractive alternative to driving: youtu.be/jq93DgLvmFc

No mention of cycling despite a recent survey saying ā€œ9 in 10 women fear cycling in UK cities.ā€
We all deserve to feel safe when we travel around the region, but too often, as women, we don’t. It’s not good enough and we’re going to fix it. This was the topic for this week’s Mayor Meets at @wbaybiglocal. There were plenty great questions and lots of ideas. We’ll turn these into action tomake sure everyone feels safe on our transport. Thanks so much to everyone who came along for this brilliant discussion. Do keep your eyes peeled updates on what happens next.

Another way is possible.
In Newcastle we turn the Town Moor into a car park during The Hoppings. Meanwhile in the Netherlands… #Hoppings #Loosefest
