When I walked back past there was a dozen ladies outside doing needlepoint and knitting together. Just miserable stuff ripping apart the fabric of the neighbourhood. Ironic, considering the hobbies they were so publicly indulging in.

They’re going to dig a tunnel from the south side of Bloor west of Dufferin to the north side of Bloor (and remove the bike lanes while digging for ~10 months!) bc developers are worried people moving to the new condos will find it too pigeony to cross at street level.

Finally caught @clevack’s 'I Like Movies' - a painfully perfect portrait of an insufferable suburban kid coming of age. Unrelated: thinking back to wrapping a shift at Lick’s, then rushing to pick up the letterboxed, subtitled, uncut, 2xVHS of 'Das Boat' from Jumbo Video.
Slowdive's 'everything alive' at just eight tracks manages to be the most affecting and coherent long player of the year to my ears. Soaring melancholy and textures worn through years and apart. A palpable sense of loss and decline that's both heartbreaking and affirming.
Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX was jaw dropping. The sheer display of technical and formal power whipped. The parade of character actor science dudes rocked. RDJ and Blunt crushed. And yet, Nolan can’t help telegraphing what should be subtext - still so desperate to be profound.
But hey, a big bad biopic like Oppenheimer getting made at all, let alone doing the numbers it’s done and is projected to do, feels significant. A reminder that massive films can (and should!) be tuned for grown ups from time to time.
