"Conference teams would beat Cape Verde!" 🫣 "I'm gonna go for 7-0!" Before the match yeaterday, Gabby predicted Spain to put 7 past Cape Verde! #fifaworldcup

Despite the Spanish team dominating possession with 74%, Cape Verde committed just one foul in 90 minutes - the fewest ever recorded by a team in a World Cup match since records began in 1966. That was one of the 𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗗 performances we've ever seen on the world stage. Hats off to Cape Verde - a defensive masterclass.

Cape Verde got an historical draw against Spain who fail to find the back of the net despite over 24 shots attempted. The country with total population of 530,000 and ranked at 67th in Fifa’s latest rankings and many expected them to be swept aside by second-ranked Spain in their opening Group H contest. However, the current European champions had most of the ball possession and attempts but Cape Verde were very disciplined and coordinated in defending. whenever Spain threatened by coming close to getting a goal, the Cape Verde 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha came to the rescue. Lamine Yamal was introduced late in the second half for his World Cup debut and his first appearance in almost eight weeks following his recovery from a hamstring injury – but the Barcelona attacker could not produce a decisive moment for Spain. Cape Verde got a great chance late in the game from a corner but defender Diney Borges headed the ball straight at goalkeeper Unai Simon. Spain will face Saudi Arabia next while Cape Verde will go head to head against Uruguay. springers24.com/cape-verde-s…

🚨 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗭𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗨𝗭𝗨𝗞𝗜. 🇯🇵🧤 Born in the United States to a Ghanaian father and a Japanese mother, Suzuki grew up in Japan but was subjected to severe criticism and racist abuse following the Asian Cup. 😢 Against the Netherlands yesterday, he responded in the best possible way. The goalkeeper delivered an outstanding performance to help Japan secure a draw and silence many of his critics. 👏 Respect. ❤️🇯🇵

🇯🇵😂 The most Japanese celebration ever After Japan’s 2–2 draw against the Netherlands, fans rushed onto Tokyo’s famous Shibuya Crossing to celebrate. For exactly 40 seconds. Why? Because the pedestrian light was green. As soon as it turned red, everyone stopped celebrating and obediently moved back to the sidewalks. Even in the middle of a spontaneous football celebration, the Japanese still refused to break traffic rules. x.com/nexta_tv/status/206643…

Alexander Isak who had been on the sidelines for Liverpool for most of last season scored his first goal in a World Cup competition against Tunisia. Graham Potter’s men came firing early in the game as Yasin Ayari rifled a shot into the top corner after seven minutes following an unsettled defending from Tunisia. Isak’s goal came in the 30th minutes after linking up with strike partner Viktor Gyokeres, with the Arsenal forward holding off his marker on the halfway line before laying the ball to Isak who then doubled Sweden’s lead. Tunisia got one back shortly before half-time when defender Omar Rekik headed home from Hannibal Mejbri’s free-kick but Sweden hit back when Isak turned provider – first for Gyokeres on the hour mark, then again 24 minutes later when substitute Mattias Svanberg scored the fastest goal by a substitute in World Cup history, just 12 seconds after coming on. Graham Potter’s side top of Group F after Ayari added one more goal to a five-star performance by smashing home his second long-distance goal, and Sweden’s fifth. Sweden will go on to face Netherlands while Tunisia face Japan. springers24.com/gyokeres-isa…

🇳🇱 Virgil van Dijk is one of the first players at the World Cup to speak out against these hydration breaks: 🗣️ “I have been watching almost every game and I don’t really like the hydration breaks. And for the people watching on television it’s also not great.” “If it’s REALLY HOT, then obviously you need it, but you need to look at it game by game.” “But I think I have said enough already…..” He's absolutely spot on to call FIFA out, as they've just sneakily turned football into a game of four quarters, like NFL or basketball so that broadcasters can sell more advertising. It's disgusting, it's a clear ploy to get more money and they've dressed it up as a player welfare measure.

Ivory Coast began their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a late win against Ecuador courtesy of a late strike from Amad Diallo. It was an even game, though Ecuador did not have a shot on target until the 68th minute when Gonzalo Plata forced Ivorian keeper Yahia Fofana into a save, they were very dominant and had struck the crossbar twice in the first half. In the second half, veteran striker Enner Valencia then hit the post from a tight angle for the South American side but was later ruled out as an offside goal shortly before the late substitute Amad Diallo came in off the bench to hand Ivory Coast their first win of the tournament. Ivory Coast also hit the woodwork when Nice forward Elye Wahi shot against the bar early in the second half, before the Manchester United player eventually get the winner from a Singo’s assist against an Ecuador side who had previously kept 12 clean sheets in 19 games under manager Sebastian Beccacece. Ivory Coast will take on Germany on 20th of June while Ecuador face Curacao the following day. springers24.com/amad-diallo-…
