🎥 St. Anthony of Padua, a Portuguese Franciscan friar and renowned preacher, died in 1231 and was buried in Padua, Italy 🇮🇹. 32 years later, on April 8, 1263, during the exhumation of his remains to be moved to a new basilica, his body had decomposed into dust and bones, but his tongue (and jawbone) remained fresh, red, and incorrupt.
This phenomenon was discovered by Saint Bonaventure, then Minister General of the Franciscans, who interpreted the preservation as a divine affirmation of Anthony’s eloquence and missionary zeal. The relic, often referred to as the "Blessed Tongue," is housed in the Chapel of Relics within the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua, where it is venerated annually on the Feast of the Tongue (typically in February). While science finds the preservation inexplicable, the Catholic Church views it as a miracle symbolizing the eternal truth of the Gospel preached by the saint.
