Me: *writes code using simplest solution possible.* Dev2: Nope. You need to make it more complex because they rest of the application is written like that and consistency is more important than simplicity.

My job has got significantly better and easier since react js came along. Thinking back to the backbone.js days, or scriptaculous before that, or jQuery before than. Updating the Dom has just become a breeze And no small part of that is fewer cross browser inconsistencies

How do you handle/communicate changes within a codebase e.g. to a module export that is frequently used? Especially with big dev teams?

I wish there was a place which listed individual Dev tasks to contribute toward charity GitHub repositories

I just bounce between error messages until there are none left. Then the code must work, right?

A request to open source maintainers: Please update your error messages with a URL to the related GitHub issue, the canonical issue which you actually bothered to answer. It will save me days of my life searching for it... React, you get a pass.

Run code. Error! Me: Hmph. Well I guess I'm stuck. How do I get unerrored?! Dev2: Have your read the error message? Me: um Dev2: What about the stack trace? Me: ... Dev2: Looked at code for the call site of the error for clues? Me: ... Nope. Dev2: you deserve to be stuck

Since prettier.js there are no arguments about code style. Everyone is just silently wishing they could do it there way. Bloody semicolons.

Greenfield Devs: We'll use libraries X, Y and X because they are cutting edge and we want to try new stuff! 18 months later Me as a new joiner: Great. I have to maintain this badly chosen and badly implemented code but the project's been going a while and no one wants a rewrite

Unpopular opinion: data led decision making is subjective, there's multiple ways to read some datasets. It's also hard and slow to gather reliable data.

My 7yo: You can't swallow your taste buds. They are stuck to your tongue. #logic

Something every dev should know about regex: /.*/ is safe /(.*)*/ is 💥 ReDoS is real. Stay safe out there

Unpopular opinion: I'm a full stack engineer but I don't want a different service for all elements of the stack. The overhead for change is just too much 😅

I wasn't convinced about #typescript until I tried it. Now it's hard going back

Surely some OSS exists to help link #github repos commits and #jira tickets. I think I'm writing these scripts at every job I get
