I’ve long held the conviction that Nigerians, no matter our ethnic backgrounds whether Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Middle beltans, Ijaws or any other share a deeper bond of care and affection for one another than we often acknowledge.
The powerful show of unity in response to xenophobic attacks has once again highlighted this truth. As soon as we learn of a fellow Nigerian facing mistreatment, discrimination, or injustice, ethnic lines instantly fade away. We don’t pause to inquire about their origins. Instead, we come together swiftly, offering defense, raising their concerns, and extending massive support.
These moments reveal that our common ties run far deeper than our differences. Underneath our diversity lies a collective identity, a shared sense of pride, and a mutual resolve to protect and uplift each other.
Let us strive to sustain this same spirit of togetherness even when there is no immediate crisis. A united people are difficult to overcome. Together, we stand stronger. Together, our voices carry further. And together, we send a clear message to the world and to our leaders: an assault on any Nigerian is an assault on all of us. Let’s channel this same spirit to fight for better governance and end insecurity in our land.🙌🏽
