#Apollo11 women: JoAnn Morgan, instrumentation controller at @NASA. She made history after being the first woman allowed in the launch-control room at Kennedy Space Center, which led to this famous photo. More info in this great article by @marinakoren bit.ly/2YffOFc

Totally different specialty but at 15 I was told by my careers teacher ‘you won’t get enough o levels to work in a shop’. Was so pleased to go back years later and tell her I was a PhD!

I failed Calc 2 the first time and my professor told me “maybe you should reconsider being an engineer if you can’t pass my class”. I may have failed his class that sem, but I got an A in all engineering classes and now I’m drainage engineer. So fuck professors who doubt you
4 years ago I got a 0 on a quantum physics exam. i met with my professor fearing i needed to change my major & quit physics. today, i’m in a top tier astrophysics Ph.D program & published 2 papers. STEM is hard for everyone—grades don’t mean you’re not good enough to do it.

My father’s response to the ad was “The only thing that could make me prouder would be to see your engagement announced in the local newspaper.”
November 21, 1969: During the flight of Apollo 12, aerospace and defense contractor TRW publishes this ad in national magazines featuring mathematician Poppy Northcutt. It is the first time TRW chose to use an employee in one of their ads.

I'll be sharing a lot about what art science means to me today, but first I'd love to hear from you! Do you have a favorite piece of science-inspired art? By you or someone else. And why do you love it?

Had my daughter right before year 3 of PhD. Best advice I have is to remember to prioritize family. Finish on your schedule, not anyone else's. Took me 7.5 years to finish but I did it.

Queen 🙌🏾 Are you a parent with a masters or PhD? What advice can you give for aspiring mums who want to pursue higher education?
So....I successfully completed my MA thesis defense yesterday. And I'm graduating in 2 weeks. With my Master's degree. At 24 years old. With 7 month old twins. Wow. 💞

What a queen! 👩🏿‍🎓👑
This week I was the very first black woman to graduate from the Uni of Glasgow with a PhD in Physics. I'm a proud Black British woman from LDN. I made space for myself in a predominantly white, male field. It was hard, but with the support of my family & my community, I did it.
