What defines you as rich nowadays? You make tons of money, but for what purpose? A lot of rich indie hackers around here seem to just not want to spend their money. Levesio said he spends only 3% per year of what he has invested. Marc has no clothes and doesn’t own a car or a house, from what I know. The only one is Tibo, who bought a chalet. I’m really wondering what’s the point of making more and more money if you don’t want to spend it.
I own 3 shorts, 5 t-shirts, 2 socks, 5 undies, 1 sweater, 1 trouser, and 2 pairs of shoes. My wife owns just a little more than that. Our closet fits in a backpack. It's been a game-changer for travelling the world in the past 2 years.

I asked why so many successful indie hackers stay frugal even after big money. The replies from @levelsio & @marclou hit hard. Here’s what they actually do with their wealth (and what we can steal from them). Thread 🧵👇🏻

So... what's the real point of making more and more money? It’s not to spend it all chasing the next dopamine hit. It’s to remove money as a limiting factor in your life. To wake up without financial stress, work on what you love, spend time with people you care about, and have the freedom to say “yes” or “no” to almost anything. As one reply perfectly captured: "Wealth is the difference between what you earn and what you spend, but more importantly, it’s the freedom and security it unlocks"

What’s your take? Would you adopt the frugal compounding approach of levelsio, jack frisk and marclou once you “make it”? Or would you spend more on experiences/lifestyle?

I’m looking for work / collaborations in tech. Right now I work 5h a day in a bar, but I don’t want to stay stuck in something that isn’t aligned with my future. I study Computer Science, build projects, use AI tools daily and I’m trying to grow as a developer. If you’re building something and need help, let’s talk. DMs open.

One of my friends discovered my X profile full of screenshots of how much I'm making. He asked me to teach him how to code. Who is gonna tell him?

my daily routine since Fable 5 got taken down:
It's been 66 hours since Fable 5 was taken down, and we haven't heard anything from anyone. I'm mad. You should be too. Dropping a video in the next hour.

It looks like you need to accomplish some results to become someone here on X. And it makes perfect sense.

2 years ago i was living in a shared house in england with 3 friends my crypto businesses were failing hard, i was burning the little cash i had left then i started posting web designs on X - and people started hiring me it was f*cking awesome, i had finally found a way to make money online that lets me do it from anywhere in the world so i did exactly that - i moved to bangkok my income was ~$3000 a month (some months $8000, some months $0) - so i had enough money to live out here pretty comfortably invest in my own startups i started learning about mobile apps, cal ai, umax etc. and wanted to build my own i started with a fitness app - and for 6 months I was struggling to get beyond $1,000 MRR then i saw mau (prayer lock founder) talking about tiktok ads, so i tried it - and it worked. i was spending $50 a day and getting $100-150 back. it was like fucking magic i didn't have enough money to scale, so i raised $20,000 pre-seed from friends & family - this allowed me to scale spend and get to $10K MRR in less than 30 days it was great, but my ads were getting rejected a lot, for "promoting an ideal body type" (because of the ai physique scanning feature) i made a looksmaxxing app, ran similar ads, and saw the profit margins were higher, the ads weren't getting rejected - so i told my family & friends "we're switching to the looksmaxxing app" since then, i've just kept the same ad spend, and it's been doing $10K mrr consistently - you need 6 months of stable revenue to be able to list on flippa, and we're approaching that very soon (next month) not bad, but the profit is more like $2,000-3,000 after apple tax ad spend (not incl. company tax) - so i was still living the same life in terms of income as i had with web design the only thing that was different was that i didn't have to work for people anymore, and the income was far more consistent here's what really moved the needle though; i started posting on X 3 months ago sharing my knowledge on mobile apps tiktok ads, and sharing my revenue for proof of course my first article "lazymaxxing ios apps" did millions of views and brought in thousands of followers over the next month my income went from $10K / month to $20K / month - from consulting, X payouts, sponsorships and b2b web apps i built for builders and it is WAY more fun - B2B and building a personal brand is so much more mentally rewarding than looksmaxxing apps - so i'm doubling down there's not really a "moral of the story" here - i'm just sharing my journey. if there's anything that does stand out though, it's that X has been a huge help for me - not just now, but also when i needed web design work to pay the bills i've still got a long way to go, i wanna be doing $100K mrr, i wanna be taking business class flights, i wanna be rich as fuck and i will, the time will come, but only if i continue what i'm doing now, staying consistent, and never giving up

This is crazy. This only means you didn't find the right girl for you, not that being alone made you a better builder. Now everything is working great for you with MRR and followers, but trust me when I tell you these are just useless if you don't have someone to share them with who truly believes in you and your vision. At some point even this great things will become normal for you. Being alone is awesome, but it’s like living with something missing and I’ve never found someone who has told me the opposite. Never.

i broke up with my gf a couple months ago since then, i’ve gone from $10k/mrr to $20k/mrr 20% body fat to 15% body fat and i can finally afford a plane ticket to see my family back home i’m not saying having a gf is bad - but since i’ve stopped chasing women, every other area of my life has improved it’s hard being lonely don’t get me wrong - but you only get your 20s once - it’s the best time to lock in, you have the most energy, dedication and stupidity 99.99% of people won’t - but i believe that you can be the 0.01%
