THE DEMON WHO ARRIVES WHEN THE SUN IS BRIGHTEST
In the desert of Egypt, Anthony fought every imaginable
temptation. But he said the worst one didn’t come at night.
It came at noon.
When the day was hottest, work felt meaningless, and the soul was tired.
He described acedia like this:
• time slows down
• prayer becomes impossible
• every task feels pointless
• you want to leave, escape, run
• you question your entire life
• you feel God is gone
Anthony said acedia whispers:
“Your life has no purpose.
You are wasting time.
God is far from you.”
He once felt it so strongly that he cried out: “Lord, I want to be saved but these thoughts will not leave me.” And Christ answered:
“Anthony, this is how the soul is tested. Persevere, and you will be strengthened"
Do not let noonday devil get the best of you.
