An excellent read for the weekend Dane Holt's new short story 'Nor in Deep': ‘He brings his bottom lip over his top lip and makes it touch his small nose. It makes him look older somehow and like he’s disappointed in me. I remember feeling disappointed in my father when I asked him simple questions and received complicated answers.’ Dane Holt’s writing has appeared in Winter Papers, TLS, Granta, The London Magazine and elsewhere. His debut collection of poems, Father’s Father’s Father, was published in 2025 by Carcanet. He lives in Belfast. Read the full story stingingfly.org/2026/06/04/n…

This week on our website, Gustav Parker Hibbett reviews 'Salvage: Readings from the Wreck' by Canadian poet and novelist, Dionne Brand (@fsgbooks ) “Salvage is no exception. It arrives—meticulously, tenderly, wryly—to address a dishonesty, a bad-faith elision in Euro-America’s relationship to its own literature. This elision, which we inherit, is a kind of shipwreck reproduced at the heart of the English novel: in narrative, in character, in aesthetic, in language.” Read the full review: stingingfly.org/review/salva…

NEW on our website: Gustav Parker Hibbett reviews Salvage: Readings from the Wreck by Dionne Brand (@fsgbooks) "Salvage, an extraordinary ‘autobiography of the autobiography of reading’, has found a form that is not quite literary criticism, not quite autobiography, but that troubles the architecture of both.." NEW on our website: A short story by Dane Holt, 'Nor in Deep'. "In the morning, still half-asleep, I felt her climb on top of me and guide me inside of her. She braced against my shoulders and began rocking back and forth with her eyes closed and her hair falling down over her face. We fell asleep again for what felt like just a few seconds before Franklin walked into our room as though he were being guided through fog in a dream. He climbed in bed between us and we all three fell asleep." Read the full story stingingfly.org/2026/06/04/n…
