Pinching myself. My piece placed 3rd in the Strange Days Award, judged by... Helen Garner 😍 "I was struck by its light touch, the vividness of its physical world, its sense of breathless waiting & then of release & gratitude." Gulp. Thx @mvlibraries libraries.mvcc.vic.gov.au/st…

"Everyone needs to take a step back & actually look at what writers’ festivals are, what we do & what’s at the core of it, which is literature. If you think it’s damaging for writers to be able to speak their mind, that is an alarming state of affairs." theguardian.com/books/2026/a…

Swimming scenes #Bondi Watched the Bondi Salties strike out yesterday & the Icebergs swimmers in their element. Five months since my last swim & I can't quite believe I used to do that, swim out beyond the surfers & swim laps at that pool. Slowly, slowly, back into it #swimming

'My #tinnitus has become a barometer for my stress, and while always present, it flares up in times of anxiety, reminding me to slow down.' Interesting piece by Freya Bennett, given my recent constant tinnitus. Definitely *not* music to my ears. 📢theguardian.com/lifeandstyle…

George Saunders, A Swim in the Pond in the Rain, on Russian short story writers: '...this is a resistance literature...the resistance in these stories is quiet, at a slant, & comes from perhaps the most radical idea of all: that every human being is worthy of attention...'

For those who wish to donate to my b-i-l @ProfRAScolyer he is riding four days in Tassie Tour with his son, his brother (my partner) & his b-i-l to raise funds for Tour De Cure cancer research @tourdecure_aus Here is the link: signaturetour.tourdecure.com…
I’m excited (but a little anxious!) about participating in the Tour de Cure (TdC) signature cycling event in Tasmania in March. I’m thrilled that my son Matt, brother Mark and brother-in-law Charlie are all going to participate too, to support this amazing organisation. We are all cycling for four days for approx 150km each day. TdC are an amazingly committed group of people that have done incredible work over the past 20 years to make a real difference for many cancers and many patients, by raising support for cancer research, treatment and support, as well as advocating and educating. The team of people that work together to pull this off through TdC is incredibly committed. My initial involvement with TdC was through my research team working together and performing research to improve understanding of cancers and ultimately outcomes. Before I developed cancer myself, I participated in TdC cycling events to teach people more about cancer & help raise funds for research. However, more recently I have participated as a brain cancer patient as well as a cancer researcher. Importantly cancer research continues stronger than ever and resulted in big impacts! Please consider donating to this important event to continue to push forward. To donate to this event under the name of the Team Scolyer Fundraising page, please click on the link. #cancer #patients #love #family #glioblastoma #braincancer @tourdecure_aus @SydneyLHD @NthSydHealth @COBLH @Sydney_Uni

In Ireland, 1 February marks the first day of spring and the celebration of Lá Fhéile Bríde, St Brigid’s Day. Watch as we honour the extraordinary contributions Irish women have made at home and around the world.
