As we continue building @thesumsuber, our goal is simple: to create something more valuable than another corporate blog — a media that tells the stories behind the digital trust industry, at the intersection of technology, fraud, regulation, and society. To do that, we believe it's important to learn from people who have spent years mastering their craft. This month, our editorial team had the opportunity to join a workshop with Milana Mazaeva, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist at The New York Times, who previously worked on investigations for the BBC and other leading international news outlets. Milana reviewed our work, shared insights from years of reporting on complex, high-stakes topics, and challenged us to think differently about how stories are built. One thought from the workshop stayed with us: "Numbers can open the door, but stories make people walk in." A huge thank you to Milana for sharing her experience and helping us continue shaping The Sumsuber into a publication that informs, investigates, and makes complex topics accessible without sacrificing depth, nuance, or journalistic rigor.

We're honored to be featured in Monarchy and Democracy: A History of Leadership — an official History of Parliament publication exploring leadership, governance, and the evolution of public trust across the UK and Commonwealth. Sumsub was selected for its contribution to digital identity verification and fraud prevention. These areas have become fundamental to how modern societies, institutions, and businesses establish trust in an increasingly digital world. For over a decade, we've worked to help organizations verify identities securely, fight fraud, and create safer digital experiences for millions of people worldwide. Being included alongside organizations shaping the future of leadership, innovation, and governance is a meaningful recognition of the role digital trust plays today. 🤝 The publication was officially launched last week at Westminster Abbey, bringing together leaders from across the UK's media, public affairs, and business communities to celebrate the project and its exploration of leadership, innovation, and governance. Thank you to the History of Parliament Trust for this recognition!

Scaling a fintech across markets means navigating a maze of verification requirements: different risk profiles, different geographies, different rules. For @reapglobal, a Hong Kong-based company building stablecoin-native payments infrastructure, that meant finding a partner that could keep up. Reap has been working with Sumsub since 2025 🤝, using our platform to verify related persons of business clients during onboarding and end cardholders across its card issuing services. One feature has stood out in particular: Reusable KYC. By allowing securely stored verification data to be reused across partners in the Sumsub ecosystem, it means cardholders who have already completed checks elsewhere don't need to go through the full process again, reducing repeated steps, shortening onboarding, and keeping the experience smooth.

Hackers exploited Meta’s AI-powered support chatbot to gain access to high-profile Instagram accounts by persuading the system to replace account email addresses with attacker-controlled ones. Meta says the issue has now been fixed.🙆‍♀️ The reports emerged following a wave of account compromises affecting profiles connected to public figures, brands, and government organizations. Among the accounts reportedly affected were the former Obama White House Instagram account, beauty retailer Sephora, and accounts linked to US military personnel. According to screenshots and videos circulating online, attackers allegedly interacted directly with Meta’s support chatbot and requested email changes for targeted accounts. Once a new email address was associated with an account, attackers could trigger password reset flows and take control of accounts without accessing the victim’s inbox. Some reports say that the attackers used a VPN to simulate the target’s location and evade automated safeguards. #Meta confirmed that the vulnerability has been addressed but has not disclosed how many users may have been impacted.

“AML Screening and Monitoring have been the most impactful features for us. Operating in crypto means we’re constantly exposed to regulatory scrutiny, so being able to automatically screen users against global lists at onboarding, and then continuously monitor them for changes in risk status, is essential.” — Alfonso Martel Seward, Chief Compliance and Legal Officer at @roxom As a Bitcoin-denominated trading platform, Roxom needed verification infrastructure that could support global onboarding from day one. With @sumsub, Roxom unified KYC, KYB, AML Screening, Ongoing Monitoring, and Fraud Prevention into a single compliance workflow designed for scale. The result: median verification times under one second, approval rates close to 90%, and 85% workflow automation, helping Roxom build the compliance foundation for a global Bitcoin-native financial ecosystem. New #WhatTheFraudPodcast episode just dropped, and this one is all about trust issues. Not the relationship kind. The fraud kind. 🤺 Account takeovers have become one of the fastest-growing challenges in digital finance, and fraudsters are getting smarter at exploiting trust, behaviour, and human error to access legitimate accounts. In the new episode, Tom is joined by Suzanne Lynch, Head of Financial Crime, and Paul Marsden, Head of Risk at Monavate, to talk more about this topic. Singapore police have released footage from a sophisticated #deepfake scam in which fraudsters impersonated the prime minister of Singapore 🇸🇬, Lawrence Wong, and other senior officials during a fake Zoom meeting. One victim was tricked into transferring at least SGD 4.9 million (USD 3.83 million) to the fraudsters. According to a Singapore Police Force advisory, the scam was targeting professionals who had previously interacted with government officials. The victim was first contacted on WhatsApp by someone claiming to be the Cabinet Secretary, persuaded to sign an NDA, and then invited to what appeared to be a high-level video conference with Singapore and foreign officials. The fabricated meeting reportedly focused on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and featured deepfake versions of senior politicians, including Singapore’s prime minister and president, and representatives from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. After the call, a scammer posing as a lawyer allegedly persuaded the victim to provide assistance with urgent funding, assuring him the money would be reimbursed by the Singapore government within 15 days. After transferring the funds, the victim later contacted the real Cabinet Secretary and discovered the request had been fraudulent. Investigators said the fake meeting showed signs of #AI manipulation, including poor lip-syncing, distorted backgrounds, obscured Zoom logos, and audio apparently broadcast through a single account rather than individual speakers.

AI-generated fraud is evolving faster than traditional fraud systems can keep up. The next generation of fraud is already here, and fighting it requires AI itself. At Sumsub, #AI isn’t just a feature or a trend in our messaging. It’s already embedded into how we detect fraud, automate compliance, and help businesses scale securely. Our AI models analyze visual, behavioral, and network signals at scale to identify fraud patterns humans simply can’t detect fast enough on their own. From detecting deepfakes and synthetic identities to automating AML reviews and reducing investigation noise, Sumsub AI Agents help compliance and risk teams move faster, smarter, and with greater accuracy. At the same time, we believe powerful AI systems must remain explainable, transparent, and human-controlled — especially in regulated industries where accountability matters. That’s why we combine: • Autonomous AI for scalable fraud detection • AI Copilots that accelerate investigations and decision-making • Human oversight for high-risk and sensitive cases • Audit-ready explanations and transparent workflows This is the future of compliance and fraud prevention: AI-powered, explainable, and human-controlled by design. North Korean 🇰🇵 hackers stole $2.06 billion in cryptocurrency in 2025, accounting for 60% of all crypto theft losses that year, according to new analysis from blockchain security firm CertiK. CertiK’s Skynet DPRK Crypto Threats Report finds that North Korea has “industrialized cryptocurrency theft into a primary state revenue mechanism,” stealing an estimated total of $6.75 billion across 263 documented incidents between 2016 and 2026. While the majority of crypto theft losses can be attributed to hackers associated with North Korea, only 12% of documented incidents in 2025 were linked with the country, demonstrating a focus on high-value targets. In just one 2025 incident, North Korean hackers stole $1.5 billion from the cryptocurrency firm #Bybit. This was the largest theft of cryptocurrency ever recorded. The report said state-backed attackers have evolved into highly organized groups targeting crypto infrastructure. These are thought to operate under North Korea’s foreign intelligence service, the Reconnaissance General Bureau, with approximately 7,000 personnel. The report also warns that stolen funds are moved rapidly through complex laundering channels. In the case of the record-breaking Bybit theft, more than 86% of the stolen ETH was laundered into #Bitcoin within a month.
