Last night, the Kiswah, the beautifully embroidered black cloth that covers the Holy Kaaba, was replaced in keeping with the longstanding tradition. The Kiswah is traditionally replaced on the eve of the Islamic New Year, marking the beginning of a new Hijri year with a profound symbol of renewal and devotion.

To be honest, I think their generation had it easier than ours in many ways. There's a saying I often reflect on: "Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create hard times." If there's any truth in that, then the comfortable times they enjoyed may have contributed to some of the challenges we're facing today. Not blaming our parents at all they did the best they could with what they had but every generation inherits both the successes and mistakes of the one before it.
