One of my biggest pet peeves in marketing copy is calling expensive expenses “investments” to make people feel differently about them when they are clearly not that 😭 no shade if you are spending $8k on florals, but you’re not investing in anything

PJM: the new Power Tinder - bilateral 'hookups' between loads and new supply

After much stakeholder debate over data centers contracting for capacity directly vs LSEs contracting on their behalf, PJM announces the middle path for its Reliability Backstop Procurement
- Phase 1: Bilateral contracts with PJM/CRA "match-making" services
- Phase 2: Central procurement for MW left
- Price cap for central procurement 'under review', clearing price to be Pay as Bid NOT Pay as Cleared like capacity market
- PJM estimates procurement to be ~15GW. Largest share in AEP, DOM, COMED zones
- Eligibility for new supply: needs COD by 2031, delayed retirements proposed to be excluded
- NO special interconnection process for RBP supply
Note: if load simply avoids Phase 1 bilateral contracting, LSEs would need to procure gen potentially socializing costs across all ratepayers - this was a criticism from States on the Central Procurement approach

Another massive battery storage record in California (CAISO) yesterday, March 29 🔋
At 7pm, batteries reached 12.3 GW of output, meeting 42.8% of demand!
And it's not just a short peak anymore. Batteries stayed above 20% of grid supply from 5.50pm to 9.35pm, almost four hours.

Having a lot of conversations this weekend about the Oracle/Abilene expansion. Here’s the latest:
• Oracle’s exclusivity period on the Abilene expansion expired last week.
• BUT Oracle was planning to rent GPUs in Abilene to another major customer—NOT OpenAI.
(OpenAI decided several weeks ago not to expand beyond 1.2GW Abilene. See post below.)
• Nvidia has put down a $150 M deposit and is in exclusivity to be the tenant. Nvidia is in talks with multiple potential customers to rent the compute, including Meta.
• The expansion was designed specifically for next-gen Nvidia chips, so Nvidia had an interest in keeping the project moving.
on the OpenAI-Oracle deal in Abilene, Texas...
-Oracle is still leasing eight buildings for OpenAI from Crusoe (~400k Nvidia Blackwell GPUs). Two are completed so far.
-OpenAI doesn't want to add Vera Rubin chips to the site and would put them in campuses slated to have VRs

I would like someone to unpack chat gpt’s strong tendency to use “quietly” as a choice adverb, for things not involving sound 🙄 no one writes this way!! No one wants to write overusing the metaphorical use of quietly! It is so bizarre. This is just one example,

TPU demand is "unprecedented" with Morgan Stanley estimating $13B in TPU revenue for GOOGL by 2027. Google now shifting to modular data center designs to scale globally.

We need @shell to address the 24/7 trespassing deterrent that blares from its shuttered station, audible from 300 homes in our area in JLS Oakland. It is a total public nuisance and I’m sure harming business for our locally owned mezcaleria across the street. SO unacceptable!

@charlenewang is this something your office can help with? Our neighbors have been making 311 reports and calls, daily! The site operator used to have a security guard, but now they’ve resorted to this extreme measure that is audible across our entire 200 unit complex a block away
