ALT TODAY AT GENERAL SYNOD
12 JULY 2025
Synod will debate two motions about church finance – one on the Church’s £1.6 billion three-year spending plans; and one calling for national funds to be redistributed directly to local dioceses.
Legislation under discussion today includes the National Church Governance Measure which would bring together several national church bodies into a new simpler structure.
There will be the first stage of legislation changing how military chaplains are licensed so they can operate more easily as their units travel around.
And there are two private member’s motions – one about clergy pensions and one calling for a review of how the House of Bishops operates.
The motion, as amended, is carried in all three houses of #Synod.
Bishops For: 16 Against: 3 Abstentions: 3
Clergy For: 83 Against: 64 Abstentions: 4
Laity For: 93 Against: 73 Abstentions: 0.
this amendment would remove the prohibition on the chair of the Vacancy in See Committee
from elected membership of the CNC but would retain the prohibition on bishops from such membership.
