I thought quite a bit about this extension of Conway's Law, which is taking the flexibility of the system under change into account. Here are some unsorted and maybe random thoughts from my experience of doing an inverse Conway maneuver on a larger scale at Flix. #SoftwareDesign
New blog: "Conway’s Law Doesn’t Apply to Rigid Designs". tl;dr A reorganisation will help you get the system design you want, assuming the system is new or at least very flexible in adapting to the organisation. Not if the design is already ossified. verraes.net/2022/05/conways-…

It was a pleasure to meet all you brilliant people at #DDDEU! ♥️ This year I decided that hands-on sessions will be my focus. The talks will be (eventually) released, but the hands-on sessions are unique in so many ways. To me, they are the highlight of the conference! Good bye!

On the train Berlin ->was Amsterdam for #DDDEU - choot choot! Really looking forward to meet everyone there. This conference is always a highlight for me, and this year my lovely wife is accompanying me, so it will be double the fun. Be there, or be squared!

My excitement for #DDDEU '24 is growing day by day. Are you going and have not chosen your hands-on lab yet? If so, then do it quickly (check your email inbox for your private link), because they are one of the best parts of the conference! And some of them are full very quickly.

The comments in this thread on Event Sourcing being too hard to do right or adding too much accidental complexity are somewhat surprising, given the constant praise of Event-Driven-Architectures by many CTOs and VPs. #EventSourcing #EventDrivenArchitecture #SoftwareArchitecture
Use eventsourcing, solve all your timestamping and versioning needs forever.

We are running multiple high throughput / low latency Event-Sourced applications successfully, mostly in Actor systems. In my view, Event Sourcing is hard when you approach it with a structuralist view, with tools and frameworks that were born without the process / temporal view.

Why is the Actor model such a good fit for Event Sourced systems? It's a model that has a temporal nature by design, it exclusively communicates via messages. These messages trigger dynamic behaviors - meaning that the behavior can change over time depending on the seq of events.

I don't always click ads, but when I do... it's because I am faster than the YouTube "skip ad" countdown.

Increasing complexity is natural for any successful socio-technical systems that evolves and reacts to signals from the environment. It's how we deal with this complexity, and the never ending stream of energy needed to keep entropy at bay. #SoftwareDesign #SoftwareArchitecture

Still feels surreal I delivered the opening keynote at @ddd_eu '23. Thank you @mathiasverraes & @aardling_eu for the stage to whisper a subtle systems thinking message to a largely tech audience seeking leading-edge tech inspiration. Slides are at speakerdeck.com/xinyao/dddeu…

Should #DomainStoryTelling stories / flows by default be annotated with the duration and frequency? While at #DDDEU, I was wondering if that would be a good practice you already used. It could help with identifying bottlenecks and the overall lead / cycle times. /cc @hschwentner

At #DDDEU @KentBeck mentioned the rediscovery of a book, that he didn't read until 20 years later, which caused an avalanche of new insights. I have the same experience with another book. It blew my mind, even after many years: Data & Reality by William Kent. 1/4

"But they are ultimately only approximations of reality, and non-unique at that. This bothers many of us. We don't want to confront the unreality of reality. It frightens, like the shifting ground in an earthquake." 4/4

For next year's #DDDEU I will propose a different hands-on lab. Physics & software, but in a more creative way: A session on hard- & software music synthesis: Devilfish 303, Roland TR-8S, Moog Subharmonicon & DFAM, Cobalt 8M and real-time automation with Sonic Pi and Ableton.

- 2nd hour spent on arrangement and automation with Sonic Pi. MIDI protocol, clocks, signal chains, equalizers, compressors, mixing, stereo fields. - Everything synced with the Midronome master clock. - The last 15 minutes will then be a live concert of all the groups ... 4/n

... bringing the synths together in an arrangement that we will build live through Sonic Pi commands modelling MIDI signal changes. I believe this can work. 😎
