Fun peak behind the scenes in how we do some of the applied research and engineering to ship AI that makes a difference for customers.

Today, we're shipping Ask DoorDash, an ordering agent that makes the @DoorDash app easier to use and discover new places. My favorite use cases include asking the assistant to reorder my usual for office lunches and family nights, prompting it to find me new restaurants similar to what I typically order, and building our family's weekly grocery in a couple of minutes by just talking to it and sharing a few recipes we found online. There's 800K items across the DoorDash catalog, and it's been a treat to use the assistant to discover so many new places and just how many things are literally in our backyard!

Our goal at DoorDash has always been to build local commerce to reflect the communities we serve. It’s encouraging to see someone actually study our audiences of consumers, merchants and Dashers and publish some of these myth busters, including this one: “Americans don’t consider the service a luxury. Forty-five percent of DoorDash customers said they had a household income below $75,000. That’s the same proportion as the U.S. population as a whole in 2024, according to the Census Bureau.” washingtonpost.com/opinions/…

The World Cup is one of the best examples of a global, local event - it's both the most viewed event globally and yet the way it's celebrated is always so local in nature. Operating globally in a hyperlocal way is exactly what we do everyday @DoorDash. That's why we're excited to sponsor this year's @FIFAWorldCup and have each of our brands, @DoorDash, @Deliveroo and @woltapp come together in a global campaign to celebrate each of the countries where we operate.

When I was growing up, my mom put food on the table by working three jobs a day for 12 years. One of those jobs was at a Chinese restaurant, where I moonlighted as a dishwasher. Watching her, I learned that for small businesses, there's no clocking out, no difference between weekdays and weekends, and no backup — just the next order, the next bill, the next challenge. Business owners are tough, but too many local businesses spend too much of their time fighting through permits and paperwork instead of serving their customers and building their passion project. DoorDash is committed to solving these problems, and that's why we built Unlocking Main Street.

At DoorDash Labs, we're building a ground up-vehicle for autonomous deliveries, developing a logistics system using the latest tools in AI and deep learning. These are some of the people making sure Dot is ready for the road.

Dashers have delivered billions of orders but this was our first to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! Sharon, a Dasher and grandma from Arkansas, knocked on the Oval Office door to thank @POTUS for delivering No Tax on Tips, a policy that helps millions of hardworking Americans keep more of what they earn. This is the kind of change that can happen when tens of thousands of Dashers like Sharon make their voices heard.

It’s always impressive to watch teams put their nose to the grind and ship with velocity and quality, especially in a sea of noise. Congrats @alexandr_wang and team on today’s milestone! Given the rate of change, I can’t wait to try all of the things you ship.

We’ve heard loud and clear from Dashers that rising gas prices are hitting their wallets. Today we’re announcing emergency relief - 10% cash back on gas (5 times the usual rate) and weekly payments up to $15 for those dashing the most. That's about $1.40 - $1.90 per gallon in savings for Dashers who qualify.
