Fourteen years ago today, I signed the Affordable Care Act into law. Afterwards, one Republican member of the House called the ACA the “most dangerous piece of legislation ever passed in Congress.” Another predicted the country would “never recover from it.” But then something else happened: it actually worked.

Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones. But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal. A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said." We are at our best when we serve others. Be civilized. Credit: Ira Byock.

Contraceptives are available over the counter in ONE HUNDRED COUNTRIES around the world—but not ours. This is a step toward making this widely used, safe medication more accessible. #FreeThePill
Today, the @US_FDA’s advisory committee is meeting to review the first-ever application for an OTC birth control pill! The evidence is clear: BC pills are safe effective and having them OTC would break down barriers to access in the US. #FreeThePill

Thanks Prez Biden for following the #science and funding a study on the effectiveness of safe injection sites. While we await the results, read I report I co-authored for @MassMedical lnkd.in/eXxZTDEz showing the evidence already exists. #opioids tinyurl.com/475wt8ja

“If Comstock comes to life, it has power to ban abortion nationwide. ... It's not just pills," Donley said. "Any abortion provider in the country is going to use the mail to get the things that they need for the provision of abortion." cnn.com/2023/04/28/politics/…

#InternationalWomansDay In response to the Iranian regime’s directive to pharmacies to force staff to wear a hijab at the workplace, Iranian men took the order to new extremes by wearing the hijab in solidarity with their female colleagues. #MahsaAmini‌ #زن_زندگى_آزادى

Donate. That is all.
Yes I cried on National tv. People tend to think I am always happy, but people sometimes are not nice. This year has been so hard to fundraise and even with the toy donation we still need to get closer to my goal. I have under a week to fundraise. gofund.me/1e2fa3e5
