Day one of the Teamsters 31st International Convention has come to a close following the unanimous passage of a resolution on UPS contract enforcement. Earlier in the day, attendees heard from Karla Schumann, Teamsters Western Region International Vice President, Vinnie Perrone, President of Teamsters Local 804, and a group of UPS Teamsters from across the country on their top priorities. The resolution recommits the International Union to pursuing those goals by reclaiming work that UPS has funneled to nonunion subcontractors.

Rank-and-file UPS Teamsters just took the stage in Las Vegas at the Teamsters 31st International Convention. UPS Teamsters from across the country shared with delegates their fights, their victories, and their priorities for upcoming contract negotiations.

On the first day of the Teamsters 31st International Convention in Las Vegas, Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman delivered his report on the state of the union’s finances. Zuckerman reported that the Teamsters have over $1 billion in total assets and more than $365 million in the strike and defense fund, and he discussed modernization efforts the International Union is engaging in to best serve affiliates. “The rank-and-file are the reason for every success we celebrate today. They are the reason our finances are strong and why our organizing efforts are succeeding,” Zuckerman said. “They are also the reason the Teamsters remain the most respected, feared, and effective union in North America. And when they are forced to strike, our members walk the line with confidence because they know their union has the finances to have their back.”

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien presented his report to delegates of the Teamsters 31st International Convention in Las Vegas. O’Brien highlighted the remarkable strides the union has taken over the last five years. These accomplishments include organizing 100,000 new workers, securing passage of high priority legislation at all levels of government, and waging 350 strikes against the worst employers in North America. “Over the last four years, Teamsters across North America reminded the world exactly who we are. We organized at unprecedented rates. We mobilized in every corner of the continent. We negotiated strong contracts across all industries. We took on greedy employers and held corrupt politicians accountable. And we struck more than 350 times,” O’Brien said. “Together, we rebuilt the Teamsters into the most aggressive, effective, and respected labor union on Earth. We’re bigger. We’re faster. We’re stronger. The Teamsters are back, baby, so buckle up!”

The Teamsters Union has taken huge steps forward over the last five years. We’ve organized 100,000 new members. We’ve bargained record contracts in sector after sector. And we’ve waged 350 strikes against the nastiest corporations in North America. At this 31st International Convention, we’re going to set our sights even higher. Teamsters from across North America have been hard at work this week preparing for the Teamsters 31st International Convention which kicks off Monday in Las Vegas. The Appeals and Grievances Committee, Constitution Committee, Resolutions Committee, Rules Committee, Credentials Committee, Organizing Committee, Political and Legislative Committee, and Diversity Committee convened to review resolutions and prepare reports for consideration by convention delegates that will shape the priorities and direction of the Teamsters Union over the next five years.

The Teamsters Union has accomplished something historic. Organizing 100,000 new Teamsters in just four years! Thanks to the determination of our rank-and-file and the record investments in new member organizing by the O’Brien-Zuckerman administration, the Teamsters Union has organized 100,000 new members since taking office in 2022.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced today that 100,000 workers have joined the union since March 2022, marking one of the most successful organizing periods in modern labor history and underscoring the growing demand for strong union representation across the U.S. and Canada. The milestone is the result of an aggressive organizing strategy led by Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, who have made union growth a top priority and invested heavily in organizing, bargaining, and contract enforcement. "If anyone is still questioning whether the Teamsters are breaking through, they're not paying attention. We're negotiating record contracts, building powerful bipartisan coalitions, and organizing more than 100,000 new members,” O’Brien said. “The old complacent guard that ran this union before us spent a decade organizing 50,000 workers, and we've doubled that in just four years. You don't see this kind of growth, energy, or militancy anywhere else in the labor movement. The Teamsters are coming for what our members deserve — so get out of our way.” The Teamsters’ growth has extended far beyond traditional industries. While the union continues to expand in freight, warehousing, delivery, and logistics, tens of thousands of new members have organized in sectors including health care, public services, cannabis, and Amazon. The union is also expanding through internal organizing in Southern “right to work” states, and negotiating neutrality agreements at employers including DHL, American Red Cross, and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. “There’s no stronger union in North America than the Teamsters. If workers want the best contracts, the highest wages, the most reliable benefits and protections on the job, they need to become Teamsters today and join the 100,000 new members we’ve organized in just four years,” Zuckerman said. “We are protecting one another and holding corrupt, greedy corporations accountable. This is just the beginning of a brighter future for this organization.” The organizing surge includes victories at major companies throughout North America, including UPS, DHL, Costco, Sysco, UNFI, the American Red Cross, and hundreds of smaller employers. It also reflects the Teamsters’ continued success organizing younger workers who are driving a new generation of rank-and-file militancy across nearly every industry.

In addition to general raises this year under our national master agreement, UPS Teamsters will receive higher cost-of-living (COLA) wage increases on Aug. 1, per Article 33 of the contract that protects Teamsters against rising inflation. The 2026 COLA allowances of $0.22 per hour and 0.55 cents per mile for UPS Teamsters will be added to this year’s negotiated $1 per hour wage increases ratified in the 2023-2028 UPS Teamsters National Master Agreement. They will be added to scheduled raises as well for all mileage paid members, pushing single rate wage increases to 2.84 cents per miles, double rate to 2.89 cents per mile, and triple rate to 2.94 cents per mile. “The historic general wage increases secured in the first year of our current national master agreement pulled UPS Teamsters significantly ahead of inflation, and the latest COLA increases will continue to give our members a strong buffer against the rising cost of living,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “The robust COLA language that UPS Teamsters negotiated and ratified will keep drivers and warehouse workers protected for the life of the contract.  With another strong wage increase of $2.25 per hour still to come for all UPS Teamsters next year, we are reminded of the power of collective bargaining and the urgency to continue to enforce every article of our record-setting agreement at UPS." The Teamsters Package Division is notifying all UPS locals of the COLA allowances nationwide.

AMAZON CDL DRIVERS IN MO JOIN TEAMSTERS Dozens of Transportation Operations Management (TOM) Team drivers at Amazon’s MCI9 facility outside of Kansas City, Mo. marched on their boss to demand recognition with Teamsters Local 41, becoming the second group of semi-truck and tractor-trailer drivers at the company to organize with the Teamsters. MCI9 Amazon Teamsters join CDL drivers at the SDF9 facility in Shepherdsville, Ky., and over 10,000 Amazon Teamsters nationwide in the fight to unionize Amazon.

TEAMSTERS-LED FASTER LABOR CONTRACTS ACT PASSES U.S. HOUSE WITH BIPARTISAN SUPPORT With bipartisan support, the U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA), a Teamsters-led bill that could become the strongest new labor legislation for American workers in generations. Just three weeks prior, the discharge petition filed by Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ, 1st District) received the 218 signatures needed to force a vote on the landmark law that would hold employers accountable for delaying first union contracts.     “The Faster Labor Contracts Act is the most consequential labor bill to come before Congress in decades. Its bipartisan passage out of the House of Representatives is a significant milestone for millions of American workers,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “The 1.3-million member Teamsters Union has worked tirelessly to build a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents who are committed to improving the lives of working people. Millions of workers at Amazon and other major companies who are fed up with being overworked, underpaid, and undervalued are organizing their unions today in record numbers. We can no longer tolerate a broken system that allows corporations to corruptly drag out negotiations and shirk their legal obligations to bargain fair first union contracts. The FLCA has a real shot to right generations of wrongs and level the playing field for workers. The Teamsters are eager for the Senate to take up this urgent legislation and ensure it lands on the President’s desk.”    The FLCA would amend the National Labor Relations Act to require employers to bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form their union. Establishing a reasonable timeline for all parties to negotiate in good faith, the legislation provides a path to mediation if no agreement is reached within 90 days and a referral to arbitration to ensure first contracts can be fairly resolved.    The Senate version of the bill, introduced last year by Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), continues to gain strong bipartisan support.    “The Teamsters Union is grateful to all members of the U.S. House who had the courage to stand with workers, to put aside partisan politics, and to advance this legislation,” said Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman. “Right now, hardworking Americans are forced to wait 458 days on average for their employers to stop playing games, get to the table, and negotiate first union contracts. With the full support of the Teamsters Union, the FLCA will put an end to this corporate corruption and give workers the opportunity they deserve to lead better lives and rebuild the American middle class. The Teamsters thank Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D, NY-08) and House Republicans and Democrats who did the right thing to bring this important bill to the floor. The Senate must schedule its own markup and pass the FLCA as soon as possible.”

Over 140 members of Teamsters Local 350 at Recology in San Mateo County, Calif., have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new five-year contract that delivers major gains in wages, retirement benefits, and workplace protections.   The Teamsters agreement includes a 25 percent wage increase, enhanced retirement benefits, and important protections against surveillance by cameras in and around trucks.
