Every few years someone writes the postmortem on crypto's idealism. The founding community wanted permission-less money and ungovernable infrastructure. What they built were the most efficient capital concentration mechanisms in financial history. The mechanism design was always going to produce this. Calling it betrayal assumes the founders had a different option. Proof of work concentrates hash power with capital until only industrial farms remain. Proof of stake converts staking into voting power, which converts capital directly into governance control. These systems were always going to end here; the math was in the whitepaper. The counterargument is that early participants didn't anticipate institutional adoption. I don't buy it. The structural path was visible from the design. If you make power proportional to capital and you allow capital to accumulate, you get capital with power. The direction of travel was always the same; what changed is the speed. A thousand DAOs with sophisticated governance mechanisms will all bend toward whoever controls the most stake in the settlement layer underneath them. Per-human decentralization tries to change what the infrastructure makes rational before anything is built on top. That is what Humanode was designed to do in 2020. The revolution always gets tamed. The pendulum is real and it always swings back. The question for the next swing is whether it arrives with different infrastructure underneath, or rebuilds the same structure one more time.
