No data, no answers: Fatal shooting of autistic teen exposes gaps in B.C. policing. In order to ensure that we’re truly addressing discrimination in our systems and respecting human dignity, we need the information to back up our policy decisions. ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article…

Live: Intervenor, Emily Hill, Aboriginal Legal Services, chose to honour courage of people to access service so they can continue to live. Indigenous people are more likely to use drugs due to trauma of colonialism and to experience barriers to basic health services.

My brother @DrMakokis drops some powerful truth bombs in here about the ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous peoples.
"If I could put the root cause of someone's death on their death certificate, whether that's death from type 2 diabetes, or cardiovascular disease, or suicide, the root cause of all that is colonization," @DrMakokis tells @chris_beaver #cdnpoli youtube.com/watch?v=4WxMSMQ_…

The lack of affordable housing is the root cause of this issue. How dystopian is it that rather than advocate for building housing for their citizens, these mayors are pushing for a suspension of Charter Rights to use police to displace them…to where exactly???
12 Ontario Mayors are formally requesting that @fordnation invoke the notwithstanding clause to suspend encampment residents' Charter-protected rights so that they can be removed from encampments. The letter cites the Grants Pass Supreme Court decision in the U.S., which allows local governments to criminalize unhoused people in lieu of building housing and shelter, or offering services. It's Draconian and represents an abdication of government responsibility for the welfare of homeless people. This letter comes a day after @fordnation told @ONBigCityMayors to "have the backbone" to formally ask him to use the notwithstanding clause. Ford has invoked the clause three times, twice successfully to both force back-to-work legislation and to limit criticism of his government through third-party advertising. With the Mayors of Barrie, Brampton, Brantford, Cambridge, Chatham-Kent, Clarington, Oakville, Oshawa, Pickering, St. Catherines, Sudbury, and Windsor taking responsibility for the ask, Ford could very well table legislation that invokes the notwithstanding clause to evict encampments, without municipalities needing to offer resources like shelter. Even if you don't care about homeless people, you should be greatly alarmed that entire demographic groups are being targeted to have their Charter rights removed. Who's next?

If you oppose this suggested abuse of the notwithstanding clause to remove encampments, all so that @fordnation and local governments do not have to provide actual solutions like housing, shelter, and voluntary treatment, then please sign and share! change.org/OntarioEncampment…
