You may or may not know that I used to be an academic - I left for my own sanity four years ago, and I am much happier doing #scicomm in the charity sector. This FB post from years back is indicative of my mental state much of the time in academia.
ALT Screenshot of a Facebook post from me, 7 years ago: "The temporary contract situation in the postdoctoral period seems pretty counterintuitive. How do you expect me to produce work that is good enough to net me a permanent job when I am constantly worrying about whether I will have a job at all in six months' time?"
Interesting summary of a new paper suggesting that researchers should be paying more attention to how they communicate their work, specifically in terms of openness, communicating where they're uncertain, and how to communicate online/avoid pitfalls.

So excited that I get to be on the PPIE panel for this amazing project - it means I can combine my research comms knowledge, my current work at the Stroke Association, and my research background in the psychology of perception. Thank you for asking me, @StephanieRossit!

Been thinking about something I read in The Dispossessed (Ursula Le Guin):
"If you evade suffering, you also evade the chance of joy. Pleasure you may get, or pleasures, but you will not be fulfilled. You will not know what it is to come home."
