A review of
@mastersmovie from a lifelong fan of the property. I am that lifelong fan of this property. I remember getting Mer-Man, my first figure, back in 1982ish from a K-Mart in Orlando Florida. Since then I’ve collected every toy from the original, through the Relaunch in 2002 (200X) to the Classics and beyond. That being said, here’s what I thought.
I loved it.
Everything about it, a fan of the Filmation CARTOON will be able to recognize as this was CLEARLY the template from which they worked.
Yes, there are some jokes aimed at the adults and some that poke fun at all the little incongruities that we’ve all known about for years. No spoilers but the ending is classic.
Frankly all of the issues people have had with the movie were present in the Cartoon.
He-Man often spoke to Skeletor, explaining his love for life including that of his enemies’ only to have Skeletor mock and attack him.
Skeletor would often be silly and make goofy jokes only to turn around and be frightening. (And this Skeletor is Lethal)
Adam was a goofball and he did sometimes have the mind of a child, but in the end, He-Man was the hero we all knew he was going to be.
They did my favorite characters justice on every front (although conspicuously absent were WAVE 1 figures like Stratos and Mer-Man) including some very superficial changes in Duncan, Roboto (which is explained as a “reprogramming”)Ram Man, and TriKlops. The ones that did meet a horrible end (and some did) I wasn’t too upset by.
If you’re a fan of the property, especially the Filmation Cartoon, you’ll love this
@mastersmovie .
SPOILER!
Teasers at the end will please fans of the “sister” properties.
