The quotes on this are proving that a lot of queer people see nonbinary people as their assigned sex at birth. Because yes a nonbinary person and a man is a queer relationship the same way a nonbinary person and a woman would be. Emma is not a woman.

No idea how this is somehow controversial but: the canon pet names or in Shane’s case, lack thereof, is infinitely more in character than anything the fandom has come up with. I don’t think the fandom has ever cooked up something that tops Ilya calling Shane “my beloved”

These stupid ass nothingburger criticisms of RR only make it so people don’t take the actually valid critiques seriously.
RR saying that Shane would “never” call Ilya “baby” and her overall aversion to hollanov using pet names most of the time gives off strong “no homo” vibes to me like she thinks it’s “too gay” for them 😭

this is a classic example of the fandom pendulum of overcorrection. The correct response to people being weird fucks with no nuance towards Shane in tlg is not to turn around and do the same to Ilya. Shane and Ilya both fuck up in the book, in very realistic and human ways
My two cents after rereading tlg, it’s literally just one guy spiraling for pages💀blaming his partner for everything and then the ending just… happens 🤷🏾♀️
