I believe that most things, if not all things, work the same. I think about this idea the most. The way that I believe everything works is… If you truly want something, you will get it. How exactly that unfolds, is up to the universe. When you want something, you pursue it. It starts as a thought, that then turns into action. I believe this combination of action and desire will bring ‘it’ to you, no matter what. I guess this is why some people refer to it as ‘law’. “Universal Law,” “Law of Attraction,” whatever you wanna call it. If you want to be something, then be it. The only reason I am, is because I choose to be. I just do it. I decide. That’s all I have to do. I am ‘it’ because I decided I am. Not because anyone else validated that I am. I have already been, because I have already made the decision to be. Yes it’s scary every time I try. But anything worth trying is going to be scary because that means it matters. People from the outside have this notion of one day I will ‘make it’. Well you can do that right now. Make it. I’ve ‘made it’ again and again. Every time I write a song… “I made it.” Every time I finish a song… “I made it.” Every time I finish a mix… “I made it.” Every time I finish an album… “I made it.” I’m constantly “making it.” That is “it” right there. I “made it" and I’m going to continue to “make it” every day that I can. That is all it’s about for me. That is where I find my fulfillment. In the doing. I am in it just to do it. That is “it”. That is the only thing that I wanna do. So unless I lose my love for it, I will continue to do it. The details, like how, where, when and what, don’t matter to me. The only thing that matters is that I get to do what I love and keep doing it. I believe that we should focus on controlling the things we can control and try not to think about the things we can’t. The thing that we all can control is the quality of the work we do. Not only because we are the ones that have to do it but also because we are the only ones that can judge if it was a success. Which I would say, it always is. Whether it leads to learning or leads to the next idea. Mistakes do not exist in my world. Only motion. I believe the things we can’t control WILL happen how they’re supposed to. We just can’t control WHEN they happen. This is a belief that I live by and try to be an example of every day. I think everyone can do what they truly love to do. It’s just about doing it. Not for the outcome, but for the fulfillment of doing. That is the tree from where the fruit grows. —- The independent thing, to me, is just to push things forward. To show other artists there is another way. I want to be just one example of that. It’s my mission statement. It goes back to the idea that we don’t need others’ validation for success. Maybe it’s harder and takes longer but maybe it doesn’t. Again these are the things we can’t control. We can only control our outlook and that in turn will decide if we perceive it to be harder or longer. For me, I’ve decided it’s easy and right on time. Of course at times there’s hard work involved but that’s why you have to love it. If you truly love it then that work is worth it. There’s hard work involved in any work you do if you care to grow and make genuine progress on it. I just want artists, or anybody for that matter, to believe in themselves, because I believe that leads to the best work. Make things as great as you can make them for yourself and if you focus on that, the rest will come. Moments will come and go with my music, even far after I am gone. So right now, while I am here… I am going to enjoy the only part that gives me real honest true joy out of the whole process. I’m going to create. That is my purpose. That is my fulfillment. That is my love. The creation will do what it does whenever it does it and it’s got a verry long time to do so. I mean it’s out forever.
