Free clothes from Merc on Carnaby Street. A reply from the head of A&R at EMI. Supporting The Troggs at the 100 Club (photo below) Alan McGee booking us into Death Disco from his home AOL account on a Friday night.
THIS is how flyers looked in the naughties, long before you could get AI to run off some slop for you.
The Foxes top of the bill at PODFEST, Purple Turtle, Camden. The band got paid £40 for the night. Top of the bill and we were grateful.
A few days later, Alex and I went round to his lounge in north London and played him our songs. He then wrote a piece on us with one of the most extraordinary opening lines we could ever have hoped for.
The full story is in this week's Substack post.
The Foxes are back! Sort of.
Starting 16th April, I'll (@nigelsongs) be publishing the diaries. The real ones — the gigs, the emails, the industry meetings, the tours, the almost-signings, and everything in between.
If you were there — at the gigs, on the mailing list, following along at the time — this is for you. If you discovered the music afterwards and always wondered what the story was, this is also for you.
* CONTAINS VERY STRONG LANGUAGE * We released the first four tracks recorded with John Cornfield as an EP "Depression, Joy and a Moment of Fame" and went on another huge UK tour to support it. Here's a little of what happened.... youtube.com/watch?v=jENvDeXB…
It's still hard to fathom that Jon is no longer with us - but his memory lives on and we're lucky to have so many fanastic ones with him. Here's a new video from our touring in the UK and Italy in 2009. We miss you Jonno! Nigel. youtube.com/watch?v=Bn2uc1sB…
** NEW VIDEO ALERT!** In 2008 we jumped in our van and headed out across Europe to play dates in Belgium, Czeq Republic and Germany. Here's what happened.... youtu.be/8w2hnTm5kIw
ALBUM RECORDING - PART 2! We returned to Sawmills Studios with John Cornfield to record another ten tracks which would finish "Last of Many". Enjoy! youtu.be/ywN7gqfwHHs
With the passing of my dear friend lead guiarist, Jon Bretman, in May I've tried hard to focus on the many amazing times we all had together and with the people we worked with, played to and met along the way.
I did a lot of filming for this (some of which you can spot in the music video for 'Get Me') and now present a short documentary on that session which shows the fun we had together and our joy in making music together.
