Take a look at some of the key take-outs from today's first panel discussion, "Neurodivergent & LGBTQIA : The 'Double Rainbow' Intersection" 🌈🌈
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this discussion! 🌟

ALT White card with the Neurodiversity Celebration Week logo at the top and an purple box in the middle featuring the text "Neurodivergent & LGBTQIA : The 'Double Rainbow' Intersection 🌈🌈 - Swipe to see some key take-outs from this event!"
ALT Card with two quotes on. Each quote is accompanied by a profile photo of the speaker:
First quote: "Intersectionality is incredibly important within diversity advocacy for many people multiply marginalised.”
- Charlie Hart
Second quote: "If it really is so important to be yourself, why aren’t people making it safer to do so? So I think that’s what all communities need to do. Rather than just tell people to be open and not keep secrets, they need to openly ask and learn.”
- Grace Liu
ALT Card with two quotes on. Each quote is accompanied by a profile photo of the speaker:
First quote: "You are powerful, and you can do something. We are all so much more powerful than we have been told.”
- AJ Singh
Second quote: "A lot of my work has been in supporting young autistic people on their own journey. Learning about discovering who they are, and the most important thing I say to them is not to focus on who you aren’t, on what feels bad, but focus on what makes you feel good, what brings you joy... These are things that other people don’t necessarily celebrate, and this is Neurodiversity Celebration Week and I think it’s important to recognise that.”
- Ollie Roscoe
ALT Card with two quotes on. Each quote is accompanied by a profile photo of the speaker:
First quote: "Dismantling gender norms involves recognising and resisting colonial norms and embracing diverse expressions of gender identity and sexuality. And that process not only requires decolonising, but also changing the institutions, the cultural attitudes, the practices, to create more inclusive and equitable societies.”
- Shazzy Tharby
Second quote: "Even indiginious languages like the Māori language have words for concepts such as autism, neurodiversity, gender diversity, third gender, non-binary and trans identities. You know, many of these languages that go back thousands of years are still alive today.”
- Tony McCaffery
ALT White card with the Neurodiversity Celebration Week logo at the top and an pink box in the middle featuring the text "Neurodiversity: Fuelling Creative Minds - Swipe to see some key take-outs from this event!"
ALT Card with two quotes on. Each quote is accompanied by a profile photo of the speaker:
First quote: "It’s understood that a large percentage of creatives are neurodivergent. If you want cutting edge creativity and innovation in your organisation, you’re going to need to know how to empower them to thrive. - Lucy Hobbs"
Second quote: "The positive I find about having ADHD and other types of neurodifferences is that we’re less likely to just accept the status quo, and more likely to question things. - Ant Jackson"
ALT Card with two quotes on. Each quote is accompanied by a profile photo of the speaker:
First quote: "Since doing work around my ADHD and work on myself, I would probably say that my ADHD is my creativity, and I am really thankful for that... All of the strengths it does give me I'd be lost without. - Jason Gilby"
Second quote: "I loved language and I loved storytelling, I started thinking, ‘I wonder if this is the secret ingredient of good writing?’ So I started having this sort of romantic love-affair with neurodivergence. I was thinking, ‘What if dyslexics just tell better stories? What if being neurodivergent is the key to being a better artist?' - Lennie Varvarides"
ALT Card with two quotes on. Each quote is accompanied by a profile photo of the speaker:
First quote: "The cycle of ADHD burnout is real. Optimise for outcomes not inputs. And on the days when the kindest thing you can do for yourself is not a lot, lean into it and give yourself grace. - Liana Fricker"
Second quote: "I think you need a team around you that has empathy, and managers who support first and judge later, and then really good things start to happen. I also think that regular check-ins are really important actually... I always say check in with me because if I’m off on one mission over here, it might be completely off the brief of your mission, so let’s sync up and make sure we’re aligned. - Stuart Hallybone"

No shit sherlock! Of course #ADHD WAS an evolutionary advantage but doesn’t work in the workplace / under capitalism without adjustments and understanding. Also why so many ADHDer’s work for themselves or are founders/entrepreneurs and find their own way 🙌

Thank you to Wayne for the honest and candid account of his experience and for sharing his insights into how we can adapt not only the industry but wider society as a whole to better support and celebrate neurodiverse people. 🙏

“Now more than ever, we should be helping kids in education or people who have different ways to look at our world to have permission to be the best version of themselves and unlock their talents. You can never be wrong by being yourself."
