This is very common in cinema (“good white person” in films about race). In Dallas Buyers Club, the Rayon character was invented to offset the fact that the real Ron Woodroof was a raging homophobe and transphobe until the day he died. -em
i was so shocked when i learned that the white guy who knocks down the colored bathroom sign is not a real person. al harrison never existed and he was made up just so they could add an admirable white male character to the film 😭
