Yesterday, my last interview was memorable. A young man showed up for a 4 pm interview. He came in, sat down and we got to talking. Getting to Acheson is not easy without a car but this young man managed by busing to as close as the bus would get him and then took an Uber. I was like, why would you do that? Busing and ubering has got to take time and be expensive. He said he has never had a job and needs that on his resume. He doesn’t want to graduate with a resume with no job on it. In a day and age when 50% of young people don’t show up for interviews here is a young man willing to bus and uber to get to work. Of course I am going to hire him. He made the effort to get here. We will figure out a way to help with getting to work and getting home.

3 pm interview showed up and got the job. So much of life is showing up, being in the arena.

0-2 today for interviews. I feel like there should be a database employers can search to see those who apply for jobs, get an interview and don’t show up.

I don’t like the question, is the interview in person or online. Always in person. If you are not willing to drive here, I am not willing to hire you.

I am baffled by this generation. Person applies for the job of ice stacker. I hire students for this. I offer an individual an interview. That person is only willing to come for an interview if I promise them the job.

The hard part about getting a job driving with a class 3 is it costs more to insure anyone with 3 years of insured driving on a vehicle requires class 3.

Hiring is always interesting. I don't get why resumes are not more polished with AI. Do people not get a resume is a ticket to a better life? Yet so many treat the resume like an after thought. If your resume is poorly done, you are not getting a job. On indeed, they will show PDF files, they don't always show word. It is up to me to download, get a word lisense to see it. I explain this to one guy, ask him to upload a different format. His response was other people see it fine. Here I am trying to help the guy and he gives me attitude. I guess I should be happy because he eliminated himself from contention. Speaking of eliminating canditates it is the new job every year that gets the X on indeed for me. Nobody wants an employee that job hops because it means they won't stick around to give a good ROI on the investment of training a worker or they were let go after a year. Showing up for an interview looking like you just got out of bed.
