The Balkans are basically the Latin America of Europe Except you'll never get mugged and the Mediterranean absolutely mogs Tulum

There is nothing worse than an insecure person with money. Everything they do is to feign status. They're inconceivably shallow and unimpressive. For making money their prerogative they're offensively stingy. No hobbies, no depth, no unique interests. Their life is merely a vessel for flexing on the internet. Don't fall for the facade

This is probably how UBI will work The government will pay you in tokens, not dollars You’ll then spend those tokens to have AI and robots provide you goods and services New currency of the AI age

Society is full of little, insidious mechanisms trying to capture and divide your energy and focus This is completely against your own self-interest, but from this discourse this weekend on unhappiness in the face of abundance it should be fully evident that people are almost powerless to resist these forces This is because the smartest people in the world are hard at work creating novel approaches to highjack your attention, degrade your willpower and convince you to trade your money and your time for the next _____ which will surely, finally, bring your happiness But success, and contentedness, come from investing in *fewer* pursuits with *more* depth and intensity You only need a few great friends who you can count on and who can count on you. A couple of hobbies you are willing to be bad at for years until you slowly live your way into well-crafted mastery. Your career will flourish if you embrace the dogged pursuit of a single outcome over a long period of time This is the tension of modern existence, and the true meta-skill to hone and refine over decades. How do you live a deliberate life in a world that actively wants you to exist in a state of reactive desire? I don’t claim to have the answer, and would simply posit this: Become aware of all the ways society, and people, try to hijack your one precious life to divert attention toward things that really and truly do not matter, and even actively harm you And every day seek to build mental and emotional resilience against those forces and cultivate persistence in your pursuit of the few things that really and truly matter It is hard. Many days you will fail. But you cannot let the world knock you off balance and live a life defined by someone else’s terms It is perhaps the only thing that matters

Not surprising that a world plagued by idleness began equating success with “motion”

You don’t live in a country, you live in a city You don’t live in a city, you live in a neighborhood You don’t live in a neighborhood, you really only live in the 10 places you frequent most

Eurowinter is really the best season for traveling. No crowds, no sweating, no hassling Just stopped by Venice expecting a zoo but was pleasantly surprised by how relatively tame and “real” it felt Offseason’s the only antidote to overtourism

Starting to believe that every city’s fashion follows its architecture. > Milan vs Houston > Tokyo vs Phoenix > NYC vs Atlanta If the buildings aren’t dressed up well, why would the citizens?

Krakow would be a world class city if not for the air pollution. 🇵🇱 Unbelievable “Old Europe” aura. Almost moved there, love Poland, but sadly the smog is a dealbreaker for me.

Tax optimizers often fail to see the “invisible taxes” that go beyond income tax. Shit air quality is a tax. Street crime is a tax. Misaligned demographics is a tax. Dead nature is a tax. Soulless architecture is a tax. Third world infrastructure is a tax. Just because you can’t quantify it into a tangible %, doesn’t mean it doesn’t deduct from your life. And below a reasonable threshold, not living where you actually want to live is the highest tax of all.
