some conservatives do read (plenty of books are more conservatively bent & plenty of bookstores are religious) but if you are interested in reading you are already more open to learning new ideas, gaining understanding, and basic empathetic thought than the standard conservative

When I was a senior they tested out the "everyone has a device" on my AP lit class, & we all got ipads. My math teacher put the math textbook on it and that was incredible because I didn't have to lug my textbook around anymore. Every other teacher didn't do anything with it

see I think of "be gentle with yourself" to be more like...don't beat yourself up if you mess up the small things. Would you give grace to others if they messed up? Then give yourself that same grace and move on. I agree we should push ourselves tho!

I am willing to bet that this situation is mostly kids being annoyed at having to anything (I certainly remember classes that were like this), but, also, there is a growing number of kids who don't write very much.

brother works with after school program that helps poor kids in the area. The kids who are so poor they don't have a cell phone have better focus than all the other kids, so we're going to see an interesting class line in the future

One of the best college classes I took discussed the Canterbury Tales & how absolutely uncomfortable these COLLEGE STUDENTS got when we got to the Miller's tale. People forget you can talk about the sexism, racism, anti-Jewish sentiments in the book without being weird about it
