YOU CAN GROW YOUR OWN LEMON TREE FROM SEED Growing your own lemon tree from seed might not be as difficult as you think. Try making it a fun family event where you can grow your lemon tree together. Check out the itemized list of what you will need to begin below. • Buy an Organic lemon from the grocery store. • You will need a 6-inch x 6-inch planting pot. • You will need a bag of potting soil that contains peat, perlite, vermiculite, and natural fertilizers. • You also need a growing location in your home that gets at least 8 hours of sun each day, or you can supplement with a growing light. GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Fill a small planting pot with potting mix, leaving one inch of space from the rim. 2. Moisten the potting soil until it is damp, but not soaked. 3. Get a lemon seed from your Organic lemon, removing all pulp from the surface. 4. Plant immediately while it is still moist, about 1/2 inch deep in the pot. 5. Spray the soil gently with a spray bottle, but avoid soaking it. 6. Cover the planting pot with clear plastic wrap, put a rubber band around the edges to seal, and poke a few small holes in the top. 7. Place your planting pot in a sunny, warm location in your home. 8. To prevent the soil from drying out, spray water on it each day, but avoid overwatering. 9. In about 2 weeks, your little lemon tree seedling will emerge. Remove the plastic to ensure it receives 8 hours of light each day, or supplement with a grow light. 10. Keep the soil moist and apply a dose of organic fertilizer mixed into your watering solution every two weeks. 11. Once it outgrows the small planting pot, you can put it into a larger 24-inch-wide x 12-inch-deep grow pot. 12. It will take 2 - 3 years before your lemon tree starts producing fruit, but it will be well worth the effort to have fresh lemons at your fingertips anytime you want !
