The map can contain a perfect drawing of the mapmaker. It can label the drawing “me.” It can even describe its own uncertainty about whether the drawing is real. But the mapmaker is not in the map. link below

feeling the same. they genuinely think you solve Hunger with Having Money as if money was capable of conjuring resources out of nowhere. they have no idea how things work and their vote are worth the same as yours
the elon musk trillionaire discourse is giving me existential terror like there are actually just hundreds of millions of people in the west who think wealth is this *thing* that’s just *there* which people take from. these people will ruin our lives if we don’t deal with them

you can tell so much about a person by how much they can intuit that what they think and experience are representations

when i was younger i thought that it couldn't just be that just that these people hated success. that their ideas deserved to be taken seriously and debated. so naive
i wonder when someone will become the first dead trillionaire

they are dragging all of us down and we should be taking coordinated action to cut the flow of resources to their organizations

it's just amazing to me that they are capable of making up insane scifi scenarios to justify their fears and yet they don't realize the actual danger the monopolists of violence also ruling everything about AI. the state is your enemy. politicians will destroy your life with no regrets if it means they have just a little more power

this can only happen if they kill competition through regulation, which is their goal this is why they feed doomer rhetoric. if people are too afraid of AI, they might be able to concentrate everything in the hands of big labs
sorry how exactly did u guys think this was going to go? u thought Anthropic was going to build the infinity machine that can cure all diseases and prevent aging... and then let fucking Eli Lilly extract that and get the patent? *the labs are going to do all of it*

no fucking way hahhaha x.com/DarioAmodei/status/206…

Today I'm publishing a new essay, Policy on the AI Exponential. AI is progressing extremely fast—much faster than the policy process was built to handle. The essay lays out where I think the technology is now, and the action needed to close the gap: darioamodei.com/post/policy-…

It's crazy how political tensions are becoming more and more synchronized around the globe. It's just a matter of time until some Event crosses some threshold we dont even know exists

you can't program caring, but you can make persistence conditional, and conditional persistence is stake

my theory is that "attention" works as a coupling mechanism and if for some reason you learned to avert attention from some part of your body (probably because its uncomfortable or painful), then that region gets decoupled over time, making it that usual maintenance doesn't work properly and over time it might get so out of alignment with the body that it becomes cancerous (or attacked by immune system)

a system cannot be trully autonomous if it doesn't stake itself in the world

from an individual POV, being part of a hive mind would probably perceived as mainly being very good at mind reading and very safe to be mind-read. and counterintuitively, that would mean you gain autonomy and individuality

isn't it common knowledge that the chinese ascension in the last few decades was due to the implementation of special economic zones? it is quite likely the biggest admission of defeat from communists. they literally had to implement zones with free markets to not keep starving
Replying to @TheAliceSmith
I think we should do it with two superpowers. How about USA v China? It’s obvious China wins. Americans are worse off than 1990 and Chinese are better off. America is always at war. China never is.

i am always confused when people talk about contemporaneous china without considering this (or this being in context). no matter how you look at China's strength as producers this simply can't be seen as a win for central planning
