I’ll be on @metromorning tomorrow at 7:10am to discuss the Ontario government’s announcement of a financial literacy graduation requirement & the math proficiency test for new teachers. I’ll probably pose more questions than give answers, but I’ll share my two cents.

I have a student who for the last 9 wks has done almost no work, and when I say hello he gives me the head nod or a mumble. But I say hi everyday. Last week he looked me in the eye said hi Ms Kaval, asked me for makeup work and did really well on the final. 1/2

ArtSMART Applications Now Open! ArtSMART engages HWDSB students in the production of a full-scale musical, in partnership with Theatre Ancaster. Young actors in the program will be able to sing, dance, create, and actArtSMART engages HWDSB students in the production of a full-scale musical, in partnership with Theatre Ancaster. Young actors in the program will be able to sing, dance, create, and act while earning four credits towards their diploma, including two co-op credits. Students will be enrolled in specialized courses in theatrical production and musical theatre. Classes are enriched by partnerships and workshops by local artists. Opportunities are also available for students interested in set, prop, and costume design, lighting and technical support, as well as backstage roles. To be eligible, applicants will be: 15 years of age or older; will have successfully completed at least eight credits; will submit all required application information by the due date.

Gr. 6 had an excellent trip to the McMaster Planetarium to explore space. We also loved the learning we did at the McMaster Nuclear Reactor. Check out how we tested “clean” on our way out. No one was left behind for decontamination. 😉 Thank you to our guides. @RidgemountHwdsb

We’ve been engaging in math inquiry using strategies from Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics for a couple months now. The kids love vertical surfaces and especially writing on the windows!! This engagement method sticks.

Saving this for a future math “What do you notice?” I’m not so great with the tv references, but can definitely think math when I see this. I have a few of them, but only a small ‘proportion.’ 😉
