“For those who leave never to return. For those who return but are never the same. We remember.” . Don Thompson completed basic training in 1943. He was told that his talents were better used in Canada feeding people. So he planted a few acres of potatoes and here we are 80 years

So we’ve switched gears, pulled out the combine and started moving our grain corn to the elevators. The growing conditions were perfect this year for the early planted crop as you can see from these enormous stalks. They created an amazing photo shoot for RJ and myself.

Happy Halloween! Do you recognize the design in this jack-o-lantern? Artistic credits completely belong to Christina who designed and carved this pumpkin. We still have a great selection of pumpkins of all sizes for anyone who waited for the last minute to get ready for Halloween

We have a great selection of awesome pumpkins. They’re waiting for you to take them home & turn them into your Halloween masterpieces. I skipped off work early to carve these ones to get you inspired. Since I was working on a blog, I was technically still working…right?? Right!

These beautiful XL pumpkins were grown by our sons John and Curtis. The pumpkins had a bit of a tough growing season this year. Cooler temperatures, cloudy skies & too much rain slowed down the ripening process. But now they are ready & waiting to be your Halloween Jack-O-Lantern

As we approach the end of our potato harvest, I wanted to share an aerial video of our bin filler I took earlier this season. This is a great overview of how our potatoes travel from the bulk truck to the potato storage. Our son Curtis operates the bin filler here at our farm.

Today is National Farmers Day so I interrupted the harvest process to capture my three farmers on film. Today would be a great day to thank a farmer. (It doesn’t have to be us!) Sometimes an unexpected thank you to a perfect stranger can make all the difference in the world.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in all my years working at the farm, it’s that people are utterly fascinated by the potato harvester. This aerial video I shot using my new drone gives you a rare insight into how the harvester works. Our harvester is operated by my husband RJ.

This implement is called a “windrower” and it’s something to get excited about as we rock ‘n’ roll through the fall harvest. Our windrower is operated by our son John. It digs up 4 rows of potatoes & piles them neatly into one row where they will be collected up by the harvester.

I’m probably going to get in trouble for saying this but I’m going to say it anyways….look how cute our new little truck is! All fun aside, we have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of this new truck to assist with our deliveries to local restaurants and grocery stores.

Last weekend we began the fall harvest. These are our Yukon Gem potatoes that were transported in large bulk trucks from the field to our farm. This is one of our two potato storages that will hopefully be full to the top by the time we finish the fall harvest.

It’s crunch time! We estimate we will have sweet corn available for approximately 7-10 more days (depending on the weather.) You can visit our website for tips on how to easily freeze sweet corn as well as my original recipes that use sweet corn.
