In 2015 @alexnortn and I were writing the Eyewire Museum and Alex developed this pretty WebGL shader code for artistically showing pulses along neurites, but we didn't find a place for it at the time. Claude revived his old code and it looks cool! alexnortn.github.io/gl_test/…

I think SACs aren't spiking after a certain stage of development, it's more to show what kinds of fun things you can do with WebGL ^_^ I believe the pulses are actually flowing down the neurites!

fastremap 1.20.0 - Adds `shell=True` argument for point_cloud (3d support only currently). This extracts only the contour of the 3d shape instead of a dense point cloud. Code is modified from the implementation in crackle. github.com/seung-lab/fastrem…

Brain and body!
Just published yesterday, the #BANC! A full central nervous system (CNS) connectome of a limbed animal enables us to trace sensory-motor arcs and understand how the CNS controls the body. rdcu.be/fncjS #neuroscience @Nature, Video by @quorumetrix, sound on! 1/18

It took endless hours in the lab and a massive effort, but we're finally here: Eyewire II is officially out! Huge thanks to our amazing co-authors and everyone else who supported us along the way. So grateful for the hard work—it’s been a privilege pushing through this together.
Meet Eyewire II: a new connectomic resource for the mouse retina. ~1 mm² of retina at nm resolution, with synapses and circuits of ca. 100,000 neurons visual responses from the ~400 neurons shown in the video! Preprint: doi.org/10.64898/2026.05.28.… Data: eyewire.ai/

connected-components-3d 4.0.0 - deprecates the max_labels parameter (you shouldn't use it anyway) - significantly faster 4-connected binary image CCL
12
zmesh 1.14.0 - New "preserve_order=False" flag for mesh that allows a faster multivalued marching cubes algorithm to run but changes the order of vertices/faces so naive == checks between new and old meshes may be false. github.com/seung-lab/zmesh

On my little test volumes, it looks to be about 30% faster.

crackle-codec 0.38.0 - Guard to prevent rencoding a format 0 volume (there's a bug that can cause data corruption) All new volumes for over a year are format version 1. - Faster decompression github.com/seung-lab/crackle

CloudVolume 12.13.0 - Fixes bug in skeletons (thanks Tri for the bug report) - Faster LRU when lru_encoding is "raw" (thanks Dodam for the PR) - Faster PSQL spatial index (thanks Ran for the PR) github.com/seung-lab/cloud-v…
