A founder asked my advice about combining a startup with having small children. I told him family is more important than business, and to put his kids first and cram the startup into the remaining time.

Shrink government (not Defense), overfund public health and schools/trades (daycare to post-secondary), create a separate long-term capital gains tax for private investments and physicians, and increase the LCGE to $16M.

Everyone bitches about shitty public schools, shitty public healthcare, public colleges and universities bringing in international students to cover public funding shortfalls… but the absolute richest people in Canada don’t want to pay more tax when they make $250K in gains.

That said, our government needs to shrink down, and redirect our tax dollars to those who need it the most. It’s grift city and cronyism all over the place.

Agreed, taxes are at the very bottom of the list of reasons to move. You have to be blind to not see the impact of Canada’s wealth gap increasing. The rich in Canada have never been richer. The poor have never been this poor.
California has the highest taxes in the US and yet most ambitious founders go to San Francisco. Rich people complaining about increase in CDN taxes aren’t going to found the next gen of great companies. A million other things to improve in Canada outside of taxes.

I was poor as a child. I didn’t feel it because we had amazing co-op housing. Because we had this co-op housing my parents could save and get a loan to start a restaurant and buy a home. Co-op housing now is a 15 year wait. Good luck getting a business loan being poor now.

Running out of reasons to stay in Canada. What @tobi did is nothing short of a miracle. Growing up here all I ever wanted to do was work at ATI (being my all-time favourite Canadian tech company) and build Canadian success stories. Now I’m here looking at EB-5 visa requirements.

We’re building a chatbot for @sociavore to replace our Intercom widget. With @meya GPT, it trained on over 400 pages of marketing and help docs and the result is *stunning*. Test it out here codepen.io/ekalvi/full/ZEMJJ… Check out their launch on ProductHunt producthunt.com/posts/meyagp…

SEDAR is where Canada’s public companies make their financials available to the general public. Ive attached a screenshot from 1999 and 2023. Pretty much in line with how the Canadian bank experience has progressed.

10secs after we put in 30min/day iPad limits, the kids started selling their mins to each other. I quickly stepped in as prices escalated and enacted a 'law' that blocked minute transfers. Currently monitoring to see if they try to lease mins as a workaround.

Driving the 401 and 410 earlier today and these guys stunt biking all over the place in costumes with “Guilty” on their backs @PeelPolice @OPP_GTATraffic. Holding wheelies at 100km/h … impressive but wildly dangerous in stop/go traffic

Sorry Indian Americans. It's no longer good enough to be CEO. You have to be prime minister of a former colonizer now. That's the new bar.

In Halifax I got a random Roam Like Home message from @Rogers. Check bill today - boom $12 charge (wasn't this $5 a few years ago?). Their stupid chat bot will not work. Their phone lines put you on infinite hold. The alternatives are no better. How did Canada get this so wrong?
