Galatians 5:14-15 “For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [15] But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.” We can do better in conservative biblical counseling than we are.

timallchin.substack.com/p/wh… This is a discussion that biblical counselors need to take seriously. At times, we have been sloppy with the secular label and it hurts our ability to engage with valid research and undercuts our influence in discussion with the larger counseling world.

We keep using the word “secular” like it ends the conversation. It usually just hides the real disagreement. This is one place I think the biblical counseling debate is getting stuck.
The most important word in the biblical counseling debate right now might be the least defined: “secular.” We use it like it settles arguments. It doesn’t. 🧵

Reality check: Biblical counselors already use categories, structures, and observations not explicitly taught in Scripture The real question isn’t if we engage— It’s how carefully we do it. Do we reinterpret and redeem it?

The better question isn’t: “Is this secular?” But: “How does Scripture teach us to understand this?” Part 3 is live 👇 open.substack.com/pub/timall…

And when we don’t… We either reject things too quickly or accept things too loosely Both sides lose clarity.
