Putin is a catastrophic fuckup and even the average Ivan in the street is starting to smell it. The empire he inherited has been hollowed out in every metric that matters. His "special operation" has delivered the exact opposite of every strategic goal he set: NATO is larger, better funded, and now physically closer to Moscow than at any point since the Warsaw Pact. Finland and Sweden joined on their own timetable while he was busy turning Donbas villages into meat grinders. Azerbaijan and Armenia are suddenly shopping for EU accession papers. Moscow's European isolation is total, its fossil fuel revenue is halved, its professional regiments are ground into paste, and its Black Sea Fleet is a floating scrapyard.
The human cost is biblical: 1.4 million dead or crippled Russians for a net territorial gain that wouldn't impress a medieval baron. The economy is shrinking under sanctions and war spending. The gold reserves have been vaporized on the Ukrainian steppe. The "closest allies" are now either dead, in prison, or openly treating Moscow as Beijing's resource appendage. Professional units are gone, replaced by convicts, migrants, and whatever North Korean cannon fodder Kim decides to ship west. Soviet stockpiles are so depleted they're dragging T-62s out of museums. The Black Sea Fleet cannot sail in the Black Sea. Russian-language schooling and cultural pull in Ukraine have collapsed to levels not seen in a century, exactly the reverse of the "protect Russian speakers" pretext Putin used to launch this idiocy.
Every propaganda overreach has backfired. The hybrid war machine that once sowed useful idiots across Western capitals now produces only eye-rolls and tighter sanctions. The regime's own people see the lie: Moscow is a pariah state running a meat grinder that even its own propaganda can no longer disguise. Corruption is exploding because war always feeds the worst predators. The army cannot supply its own troops in occupied Donbas and Crimea without constant Ukrainian drone strikes. And still the Kremlin mouthpieces insist this is "winning."
This is not competence. This is imperial suicide wearing a tactical vest. Moscow's only remaining advantages are ballistic missile stocks that are finite and an endless supply of disposable bodies that is finally hitting its limit. Every village they capture costs them more soldiers than the settlement had residents before the war. The math is merciless and accelerating.
The lesson for the West is brutally simple: arming Ukraine is not charity, it is the cheapest European security policy available. Every Ukrainian drone hitting a refinery or ammunition depot is a strike that does not have to be answered by NATO troops later. Every sanctioned barrel of oil not sold is money Moscow cannot spend on new aggression. The idea that this ends with a negotiated freeze is fantasy sold by people who have never paid the butcher's bill themselves. Imperial projects only stop when they are broken on the battlefield. Everything else is theater that buys Moscow time to regroup and come back harder.
Ukraine is not "defending Europe so you don't have to." Ukraine is demonstrating that Europe still possesses the will to defend itself when it chooses to. The rest of the continent can either invest seriously in Ukrainian victory now or explain to its own voters later why Russian glide bombs are landing on their cities instead. There is no third option. The empire that cannot even advance fifty kilometers from a city it has held for eleven years is not coming to terms with reality; it is bleeding out in slow motion. Let it finish the job. The smaller, saner states that replace it will be easier neighbors for everyone.
