In this, The Age of Stupid, we live in a time when huge numbers of the righteous believe those who murder in the tens of thousands deserve our support and are morally superior to those who kill a thousand. Though respecting (and loving some) individuals I've always been wary of humans in large numbers. In large numbers we are too easily persuaded to become a mob ("Give me your vote and I'll give you a scapegoat" - "Yes *please*!"). However, though familiar with the time honoured endemic wielding of misogyny, homophobia, racism and ableism (Antisemitism is racism. Racism isn't only for those who aren't white) I underestimated the pace of the acceptance of "alternative facts". I underestimated the gullibility and eagerness of swathes of revenge seeking bible wielding right wingers, not knowing why they want revenge, knowing only that they want to hurt anyone who is not like them. And I underestimated the lack of attention of those whose parents or grandparents suffered under dictatorships, totalitarianism, fascism (now politically correctly called "authoritarianism") who have eagerly voted for and are eager to vote for the return of those regimes and the brutality, viciousness and casual, murderous cruelty that goes with them. Similar to those Brits who, having retired to Europe, voted for Brexit (dummkopfs) those eager to vote for an orange tinted American Caesar think they'll be safe from the effects (dummkopfs).

For anyone to have even an ounce of fear in saying so is insane. When even Israeli hostages holding a white cloth on a stick as a white flag - the internationally recognized protective sign of truce or ceasefire - are being killed by Israeli forces, we realise Palestinians can’t leave precisely because there are no safe areas in Gaza. Palestinians also won’t leave because they don’t trust that will be let back in again. They believe they are being displaced. And with some of the rhetoric coming out who can blame them. They are now being starved out. Let’s call a spade a spade: this is inhumane. And the world watches on passively because our domestic institutions allow it and our toothless international institutions like the @UN have no power to stop it. This is where we have arrived collectively as a species. ⬇️
