It’s five years since I was diagnosed with an incurable blood cancer. I wrote a big piece for Saturday magazine about the worst year of my life - terror, grief, miscarriage - and how it has led to some of the happiest theguardian.com/society/2023…

I’ve just been into the city centre to pick up a friend and his young son who were completely stranded due to the issues at Lime Street. I’m aware that there’s been a major incident and the resources of the emergency services will obviously be stretched, but the situation at Lime Street and the gridlock of traffic all around the city centre with zero control is very, very dangerous.

Liverpool Lime Street closed to passengers. We've known this would be the demand for a month. Emblematic of our disgusting national train failure. Merseyrail on the way up a disgrace too

My little obit for James McMahon – a funny, creative, passionate and occasionally maddening friend who I had an absolute blast with in my early NME days. RIP Jam x theguardian.com/music/2024/n…

50 years ago this month, Kraftwerk’s Autobahn changed pop music forever. I drove from Bonn to Hamburg to capture the road's sights and sounds – and work out why nobody in Dusseldorf seemed bothered about the band (and yes this WAS a dream commission!) theguardian.com/music/2024/n…

Scathing statement from Bernie Sanders on the election results “It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them…”
