Broca’s area may be one of the “sites of origin“ of brain abnormalities in schizophrenia: nature.com/articles/s44220-0… In our new @NatMentHealth paper, we link morphology and asymmetry of Broca’s area to genetics and psychopathology: rdcu.be/dxcm3

🧠 Take-home: Panic disorder is not a single-circuit disorder → but a distributed, multilevel brain condition Glad to share this work with @INM7_ISN @DukartJuergen @JustineYHansen 🙌

Though we were colleagues, I only got to know Prof. Nolan Williams just before I left Stanford for DC last year. He impressed me as a brilliant scientist & a man deeply committed to helping suffering patients. His passing is a true tragedy. May God bless and comfort his family.
Everyone at HHS is mourning the passing of Stanford Professor Dr. Nolan Williams. Dr. Williams envisioned a world where the field of psychiatry addresses the root causes of depression and where patients receive precision treatments tailored to their individual brains. At Stanford, he identified biomarkers to predict who would benefit from neuromodulation, created SAINT, an accelerated protocol for treatment-resistant depression, and led groundbreaking studies on ibogaine in veterans with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. To everyone suffering from depression or suicidal thoughts: you are valued, and we see you. Reversing the mental health crisis is a key priority for me. Dr. Williams made a profound impact on the world—one that will endure. We are praying for his family and will honor his legacy by advancing research and delivering innovative mental health therapies to patients.

"If You Must Play One Sport, Make It Tennis The longer you play, the more it will do for your health." I could not agree more. Great article!
Tennis is now easier to pick up than ever. “But its real advantage over other sports is what happens when you keep on playing,” Alexandra Moe writes. theatlantic.com/health/archi…

🧵THREAD: Our new study published in #lancetpsych! We found that pramipexole augmentation substantially reduced depressive symptoms in patients with treatment-resistant depression over 48 weeks of treatment. This is an important advance in how we treat depression! 1/6

🔊*New Research* @BMJMentalHealth A new study indicates that enhancing targeting precision via scalp-based heuristics does not affect the treatment outcome of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment of depression. There is thus no need for clinicians to switch from their familiar to an “advanced” approach among these common targeting heuristics. @NickTrapp13 @ATSack_ @timmpoe @UniklinikAachen @RWTH @uiowa @UIowaPsychiatry @uni_regensburg @maastricht_fpn To access the full article, please use the link below: mentalhealth.bmj.com/content…

Anxious that another targeting method in rTMS treatment of depression may be more effective than your familiar approach? In our @BMJMentalHealth paper, we find similar symptom improvement among three common scalp-based heuristics for coil positioning: mentalhealth.bmj.com/content…
Compelling answer to the age-old question: Two common TMS targets (5.5cm and BeamF3) are equally effective for depression… 5.5cm might be slightly better for anxiety. By @NickTrapp13 @boeslab @UIowaResearch @ClinicalTMS

Always wondered why vegetarians would eat plant-based meat alternatives (PBMA) when there are so many tasty vegetables. Turns out PBMA increase the risk of depression.
Are you a vegetarian consuming plant-based meat alternatives? Our latest research reveals a surprising link between ultra-processed plant-based meat alternatives and depression risk in vegetarians. Learn more: ow.ly/cWcl50Usp8Y #plantbased #vegetarian #mentalhealth
