I shelved her after a crash and a thousand dollar scare. I moved on to more comfortable projects that don't defy gravity.
I could leave it shelved, intact and safe. But no, titan dynamics said I could use their airframe in my dissertation. I paid $200 in tariffs for monster ESCs and brushless motors. It's time to crash her or add the coolest flourish I can imagine to my defense, ego, and resume.
New motors are gonna take fresh mounts on the arms and re-leveling which was a pita. I'm ordering a gh1.25 pre-crimped because I'm so afraid of another short in the same place. I picked up some 6Ss which should get us to 2x thrust to weight ratio.
Should be done before the weather is nice enough to fly. Then hover tests and quad calibrations. After that, I guess you just punch it?

I'm so so tempted by lenses, or a performative antenna. All the cute droids have antennae. Instead I ordered two round LCDs, and found a potentiometer, button, mic & flippy switch. Greeblies.
I'll probably write up some little FaceOS on the esp for pi config w/ the buttons.

Star Wars concept artists have this intuition for greeblies and panels that I don't feel like I have. Sometimes I give grok screenshots of CAD drawings and ask for photorealistic renders and see if it adds anything inspiring. This one's pretty good.

update 7: the wiring is a little freakish. there's a female c13 port labeled "charging", and inside, it looks like it's wired straight to the lead acid batteries. I had played it fast and loose and plugged it straight in in the beginning. Nothing exploded and the charging light came on, but I'm a little freaked.
soooo I emailed the auction house where I bought it. "I know I was supposed to inspect this thing and make sure everything was with the package, buuuuuut can you help me find a PDF of the instructions lol"
sure enough they have the remote and the manual and some black cable. theyre shipping it to me. The remote's a racecar one with an SBUS receiver that I already pulled out. Maybe I'll put it in an RC car lol.

update 8: talked to my PI last night. made a bunch of plans--submit 2 papers before aug defense. I mentioned the mower/RTK plan bc it's tangentially relevant.
he said "you should order the RTK as a graduation gift AFTER your defense" so I ordered it immediately
