Sigh. I'm all for improving our food environment, but we can't go back on all the progress that has been made...
RFK Jr’s nomination is the repudiation of a century of unprecedented and miraculous progress in public health. We take it for granted because we don’t recognize how far we’ve come. I recently wrote in @TheAtlantic about what we risk losing. Gift link 👇 theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

Interesting modeling study abt deaths averted with hypothetical increase in GLP1/GIP coverage uptake - with the key point being: It's not just about weight loss. There's real cardiometabolic health risk that can be improved w incretin therapy. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.24…

Just asked @ZekeEmanuel about what we should be doing next for America’s health to have the greatest impact. His answer made me jump out of my chair. Invest in our children. The earlier, the better. Their nutrition, their education, the right early inventions. We can afford it *and* it pays for itself. More to come on the Second Opinion pod!

standing room only at @RamiBailony re real world long term AOM (1st and 2nd gen) vs intensive behav. Interesting findings: short term AOM use <48 weeks not impactful. ‘focus on the relationships’ - AOMs a tool to help people successfully make behav changes #OW2024 @ObesityWeek

Today is the last day for us to #DoSomething to get @KamalaHarris elected! What a remarkable few months this has been — in record time, she’s built an extraordinary campaign, set forth a clear policy agenda, and proven again and again that she will be working not for herself, but for you. She’s done it all with intelligence, integrity, and grace. She has gone above and beyond. She’s more than done her part.

love Dr Kaplans characterization of obesity care currently as treatment focused — rather than patient focused — arguing that we need to cont working towards comprehensive obesity treatment @ObesityWeek #OW2024

We all talk about weight loss physical health benefits of GLP/GIPs, but so important to broaden the aperture: how is quality of life impacted when on GLP1s for obesity? Here bit.ly/40x1MOS colleagues and I propose further research needed to better understand QOL 👇

this is what scares me about the obesity and diabetes epidemics --- YOUNG people are impacted, which unfortunately means they grow into adults who will spend more years of their lives with complication, illness. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

The benefits of incretin-memetic drugs (IMD) are clear 💉 The benefits of physical activity and nutrition therapy are clear 🏋️‍♂️🥦 This is not an either/or debate. A comprehensive weight management program should include both. Figure Source: doi.org/10.1111/obr.13841

Love this reply by Dr Dayspring keeping it real: "speak to your physician and instead of fearing incredibly efficacious and safe statins, fear ASCVD (which statins can safely prevent)"
Regarding last night's tweet by @ErinMichos about what Peter Libby (world's top ASCVD thought leader) thinks about desirable LDL-C. Let's never forget this statement of his posted below - Cholesterol and LDL Deniers - it would be admirable if you would all please admit how wrong you were/are! @nationallipid @society_eas @atherosociety @escardio

Great reminder on why it matters to KNOW and TRUST who you are working with for your healthcare. GLP1s arent just candy to be handed out - people deserve to be getting actual comprehensive obesity CARE, like what we do at @TeladocHealth or my own practice at the @UUtah
Hundreds of telehealth sites now offer compounded GLP-1s. But who's actually writing those prescriptions? I dug in for @statnews and found a surprisingly small number of medical groups behind the scenes of dozens of sites cashing in on the GLP-1 boom: statnews.com/2024/10/17/tele…
