Another story from @FarmersWeekly's #DyingToFeedYou campaign for #FarmSafetyWeek. This time, from James Chapman, who lost his arm in a pto shaft. His advice: "Sometimes it’s about having the courage to say no – my life is worth more than that." fwi.co.uk/business/business-…

Seriously don't rob us farmers of the straw incorporation measure. If these lands were to be sown with covercrops and produce lots of bulky green stuff there would be no fodder crisis.

Majority of Crops that are chopped are NOT suitable for baling and will be chopped anyway. This is Co.Galway a high straw demand area if I could sell these crops I would. @GrowersGrain @AgrilandIreland @agriculture_ie

The best scheme to ever be introduced into the tillage sector and gone with the click of a finger. Hopefully common sense will prevail

From the @farmersjournal 20/08/23. The tillage industry (& others) are greatly disappointed and angered by the recent pause of the straw incorporation scheme. I hope we don’t see wet swarths of straw in fields next November: unbaled, unchopped, unwanted…..

Organic Geraldine barley looking very clean out in Dunmore with very little disease in the crop 💪🏼🌾
The barley brigade with new organic grower Sinead. Barley only went down in May so it’s the shortest we’ve seen.

Seeing a lot of this across the farm on the hawthorn hedges. I'm hoping it's not fire blight as trying to deal with ash dieback from imported saplings is hard enough without having to worry about another imported disease on the farm

Always intrigued by end goal of posts like this. The implication is that commercial farming is awful so simply if we stop that everything will be fine. But there’s never recognition of the fact that commercial farming is what provides us with what we need to survive. Food. 1/ 🧵
The hard truth. This is rural Suffolk - in an incredibly old & beautiful spot surrounded by commercial arable farming. The result=decimation of insect populations. Imagine what that means for anything ‘higher up’ in food chain? Same’s true nationwide. Canary in the mineshaft.
