Highlighting a rare, legendary two-sport titan who won national championships on both the gridiron and the diamond:
Jared Mitchell (2006-08) β A blazing-fast, elite dual-sport weapon out of New Iberia who patrolled the outfield for Paul Mainieri and suited up at wide receiver for Les Miles. Mitchell brought elite athleticism over 32 career games, hauling in clutch receptions to help secure the 2007 BCS National Championship.
He etched his name into campus lore in spring 2009 with one of the most iconic postseason runs in college baseball history. Mitchell hit .348 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, and seven RBIs in Omaha to earn College World Series MOP honors while leading the Tigers to their sixth national title. He swiped 36 bases that season, second in school history, and was then selected No. 23 overall in the 2009 MLB Draft.
