New blog post - a bit of fun with a card game designed for volcanology - "Voltivity" (Volcanic Activity cleverly combined...). A turn based card game where players compete to get the most points by creating eruptions. volcano-blog.com/blog/voltiv…
In this paper we look at gas bubbles and how they behave when travelling inside inclined conduits. We look at what effect small amounts of particles have on the behaviour of these bubbles. The goal to see what combining complexities could do for strombolian style eruptions.
New paper! This paper deals with crystals in inclined conduits, and analogue experiments for slug-driven volcanism, and is from Hannah Calleja and @tompering!

New Research: A new permanent, low-cost, low-power SO2 camera for continuous measurement of volcanic emissions: Since its introduction to volcanology in the mid-2000 s, the SO2 camera has become an important instrument for the acquisition… frontiersin.org/articles/10.…#Earthscience
New open access paper out on the @sheffieldgeog ultraviolet camera for measuring volcanic sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions, led by @Thomas_Wilkes1, this is the next step in the development of our low-cost system but for permanent usage.

Overall, we hope that this paper and instrument development shows the potential for low-cost permanent installations of ultraviolet cameras in the future.
I am giving a lecture for the @The_GA tomorrow on "Volcanoes: from inception to eruption" aimed at GCSE/A Level students, feel free to pass on to anyone who may be interested, sign up is here: geographyeducationonline.org… @sheffieldgeog @SheffSocScience #geography#geographyteacher
Our Level 1 @sheffieldgeog @SheffSocScience physical geography students head into the field this week! Was great to see students in person today for an outdoors equipment instruction section. #Geography#geographyteacher
Preprint @EarthArXiv, led by @Tehnuka on ultraviolet camera measurements of passive and explosive sulphur dioxide emissions at Yasur volcano, Vanuatu eartharxiv.org/7r2ay via @OSFramework. Important fact - measurements were made from a treehouse.
Super excited to see our paper out @NatureCommsrdcu.be/b4Wx2. We combined a ground-based remote sensing approach with in-plume measurements using an aerial platform to calculate gas compositions and amounts from specific vents. Thanks to a great team!
Simultaneous aerial and ground-based measurements now allow us to determine vent-specific volatile fluxes at multi-vent systems. In this study led by @tompering we apply this strategy at Stromboli. Delighted to see our paper out in print in @NatureComms! nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
