Investigators are racing to document Russian war crimes in Ukraine, but as Reuters’ Anthony Deutsch reports, the Trump administration's cuts to foreign aid are leaving them with fewer resources and less hope for accountability reut.rs/436EKyB

This rather unScholz-like speech was given last night in Brandenburg. The video omits perhaps the spiciest line: "Dear screamers, Putin is the warmonger you'd be shouting at here if you had any sense in your brains".
Scholz’s indignation is absolutely righteous. What a difference a year makes. x.com/KadirHama/status/16649…

Interviewer: “Is it a myth that the West deceived you with regard to the NATO eastward expansion?” Gorbachev: “Yes, that’s actually a myth.”

Here is the link to Evan Gershkovich's excellent article "Russia's economy is starting to come undone". Presumably this insightful article is the reason why he was arrested. The current Russian authorities are so predictable, just like the USSR. wsj.com/articles/russias-eco…

Yes....press freedom is a wonderful thing. It's good that Mr. Liu has much access on the scene in Ohio. Meanwhile, foreign journalists in Mainland China that have attempted to cover the peaceful "white paper" protests are harassed or get dragged off and detained by the PSB.
A young Chinese reporter for CCTV, Liu Xiaoqian, is in Ohio. His live reporting was praised on the Chinese internet.

After nearly three years being told that trying to coexist with COVID-19 would be catastrophic, many people in China think there's a big risk in opening up, despite the growing lockdown frustrations. reut.rs/3EWvgcH

This was such a brilliant video I subtitled it so more people can watch it. Beijing students' response last night to accusations that there are 'foreign forces' at play in this weekend's protests 'The foreign forces you are talking about – are they Marx and Engels?'

A thread here for those who don't understand why the China protests over the weekend protests are so shockingly rare. Surveillance. In. China. Is. Extreme. Think you could evade Chinese police? Let's walk through it:

"There's tons of people protesting, they'll never catch me," nope - Chinese police stations use huge networks of facial recognition cameras that can retroactively trace people for days or even months.

‘Acceptance’ is usually more a matter of fatigue than anything else. (DFW in Infinite Jest) I think everyone currently living in #China can relate to this sentence.

#China’s digital surveillance based #Covid prevention app has the power to bring your life to a halt. 5 days ago it blocked my health code, claiming I’d gone to a high risk area in Chengdu. I haven’t been there in 3 years. Now I cannot go to work, shopping, gym, friends. 1/3

Without a green health code you cannot enter any building. I informed the Neighborhood Committee that controls the backend of the system about the mistake, they insisted I still had to go through the procedures to unblock the app (nose swabs, documents). To no avail. 2/3

I am still blocked. Shut out from life by a stupid app that runs on faulty data. The state has unchecked powers to collect your data every step you take and then swoop into your life without any regard for the consequences. Zero #Covid sucks #China
