This multi-faceted investigative work by our members and policing partners nationwide is nothing short of extraordinary. The identification, location, and arrest of those allegedly responsible for multiple shootings, including at the United States Consulate and in the murder of Constable Marc Pinizzotto, demonstrate exceptional professionalism and resolve. In the face of profound loss, our teams continue to show unwavering strength, courage, and an enduring commitment to protecting our city. This work defines who our members are.
We have made three arrests and seized two firearms in connection with multiple firearm discharge investigations across the GTA, including one at the United States Consulate on March 10.   One suspect will be charged with first-degree murder in the homicide of Constable Marc Pinizzotto. Another suspect remains outstanding in connection with the shooting at the U.S. Consulate.   For more information: tps.ca/media-centre/news-rel…

Once again, while most people were sleeping, another police officer was injured protecting this city. Thankfully, this time, the officer was able to go home. We have 18-year-olds, barely adults, involved in the murder of Officer Marc Pinizzotto and now another serious incident. The fact that we could have lost another member due to the actions of a 12-year-old is beyond frustrating. These incidents should concern everyone. The blatant disrespect for our members, leading to injuries and even death, must come to an end. We recognize the SIU has a job to do and we will support our members throughout this process. However, it is also time to focus on the actions of those who are putting our members in positions where they feel the use of force is their only option.

A message to locals and visitors: We’re glad you’re here to enjoy the World Cup but please do so safely. Never put your hands on a police officer. They will arrest you. You will be charged. Our holding cells do not have TVs. You will miss the game you came to enjoy.

To patients and visitors who may have been inconvenienced by our presence, thank you for your understanding.   To our first responder family, including @Toronto_Fire, @TorontoMedics, surrounding police services @OPP @PeelPolice @DRPS @YRP, and staff and visitors @HRHealth and the Coroner’s Office, thank you for assisting with and attending yesterday’s procession.   Our collective hearts are broken, and we will continue to surround Marc’s family with strength and support as we mourn this tragic loss.

Thank you for the opportunity to talk about Marc and the realities that face our members everyday. When the city is sleeping, working, playing, our members leave their families and put their lives on the line to make Toronto a safer place. We will continue to stand by our members and support Marc’s family and colleagues during this time.
"We lost a hero. Marc was a hero. I was in bed when he was there executing a search warrant with these dangerous individuals, when we're all sleeping and put his life on the line." @TPAca President @TPACampbell discusses the line of duty death of a @TPSOperations Constable.

A statement from President @TPACampbell: It is with heartbreaking sadness today that we confirm the line-of-duty death of @TorontoPolice Constable Marc Pinizzotto. A valued member of our elite Emergency Task Force, our brave brother was fatally shot early this morning during a high-risk takedown. The TPA has been on site all morning with Chief Demkiw and other members of the TPS, supporting Marc’s devastated family and colleagues. Details of how this tragic incident unfolded, as well as any arrangements, will be available in the coming days. In the meantime, I want to ask everyone for their support. When most people were safely at home in bed, this officer left his family to make this city safer. Our members put their lives on the line every day. It is a devastating tragedy that Marc did not return home to his family today.

Today, we gathered with our policing community and @CanadaBTB at the Ontario Police Suicide Memorial to remember those we have lost because of the line of duty. It was a moment to reflect alongside the colleagues, family and friends they left behind. Together, in support of one another, we are stronger. Policing demands immense responsibility, unwavering commitment, and daily sacrifice. Thank you to every partner who helps protect the mental health of first responders and understands the weight of wearing the badge. We will never forget them. #BecauseOfTheLine

Today, the @SIUOntario invoked its mandate in relation to an incident involving our members and a cyclist who refused to stop for police. We will fully support our members throughout this investigation. As this matter unfolds, we encourage everyone to wait for all the evidence to come out rather than accepting narratives that may be incomplete, inaccurate, or driven by outside interests. As a reminder, when an officer tells you to stop, you should stop.

We are proud to support our members in the Hate Crime Unit as they continue to investigate incidents, follow the evidence, and hold offenders accountable. The arrest of four additional individuals alleged to have deliberately targeted members of Toronto’s Jewish community with an imitation firearm sends a clear message: acts of hate and intimidation will not be tolerated. These incidents are a concern to everyone. We are confident our members will continue to pursue this investigation and others diligently in their ongoing efforts to keep all Toronto communities safe.
